Goldenthal's Genius,
By A Customer
This review is from: Titus: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
In a time when so many motion picture soundtrack recordings are nothing more than compilations of rock n' roll songs featured, albeit briefly, in their respective films, it's wonderful to find a completely original score. The film has not yet arrived in Denver but on the strength of Goldenthal's past work, I immediately picked up the CD. It is an amazing mix of musical styles and sounds blended together to create one of the most interesting and enjoyable film scores I've heard in some time. Mr. Goldenthal ranks among the best of today's film composers: John Williams, John Barry, Gabriel Yared, Jerry Goldsmith, and others. His musical instincts and talents help enhance our motion picture experiences.

This is Elliot Goldenthal's current epic masterpiece!,

There aren't enough words to describe how brilliant and exciting this score is! This is, without a doubt, Mr. Goldenthal's most bombastic, most creative, and most monumental piece of film score work to date. The film may not have been well noticed or recieved, but they did good by releasing an hour long score from the movie. Jam-packed with powerful themes, brilliant jazz ensemble pieces, and chilling melodies, Titus is a score that any film score fan shouldn't hesitate to pick up! It is truly Mr. Goldenthal's finest score to date!

Stunning diversity,

Goldenthal found the perfect tone to complement this over-the-top, gaudy, gory film. The music plays extremely well by itself, however. Like the film, it combines many eras and genres of music, from heavy orchestral works to modern swing jazz to industrial rock to atmospheric dissonance. Goldenthal feels at home with all. The music, is, by and large, all way over-the-top, but it's very fun to listen to.

Elliot Goldenthal, it's about time he wins an oscar,

The soundtrack to Titus, like the film, combines many eras into one. There are are great choral works with lots of percussion melding with Jazz and some pop sounding tracks all put together with seamless transitions. This work by Mr. Goldenthal shows how much more experienced with writing music over 90% of todays film composers. He among, John Williams know how to write music that isn't mind bogglingly boring....cough...James Horner..

I must admit, I'm not too familiar with Goldenthal's work. I've seen many movies that he's scored, but TITUS is the first soundtrack CD of his that I've bought. It's a marvelous piece of work, ranging from moody orchestral tomes to heavy metal to jazzy swing numbers. And it all blends together perfectly! Needless to say, I'm duly impressed.

Brilliant! An Experience!,

Like the film, the score is a modern work of art. Never before has Goldenthal been so involved. The score goes from frightening, to jazzy, to sullen, to cathartic in a way that few film scores ever have. It is a must for anyone who wants to hear music worthy of Shakespeare's poetry!

Undoubtedly Interesting and unique...,
This review is from: Titus: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Elliot Goldenthal's score to "Titus" is very unique and interesting. I was doubtful when I first got it if I would really like it, but I did. You got blasting choral and orchestra sometimes combined with heavy-metal like guitar riffs and even swing music styles, sometimes all put together. "Pickled Heads" is a good track indeed and "Vivace" the ending song is rather cool in an eclectic sort of way. If you've seen the movie and liked it, then this is a no-brainer. Even not, if you'd like to experiment a little in your soundtrack music in branching into new areas of experiment, "Titus" is an interesting addition to any library. It may not get the most play time in my stereo, but I in no way regret buying it.

Perfect Example of Goldenthal's Genius,

Goldenthals range and creativity is perfectly demonstrated on this outstanding CD. The recording quality is demonstration class and the music is thrilling, intense, operatic, original, and moving. The cd switches style between Mahlerian/Wagnerian operas to swing and jazz with such ease demonstrating the versatility of the composer. A warning though, the music is modern, and vulgar (appropriate for the storyline) and Goldenthal employs very modern orchestration techniques.

Weird . . . I like it!,
This review is from: Titus: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Yes, I am a Goldenthal fan. I purchased this soundtrack by word of mouth. I've never seen the film so I didn't know what to expect.
Wow, this is one crazy soundtrack ranging from loud choral chants to bombastic chaos to jazz swinging. This album has it all. "Victorious Titus" is an awesome way to open the album. It begins with a loud male chorus chanting away in some language followed by loud, hard-hitting percussion. By the end of the track, the music has accelerated into something "victorious". This is easily one of the best tracks of the album. "Revenge Wheel" is very dark. It begins with rolling brass grunts followed by loud French horn blasts. Short, dark and enjoyable. "Tribute & Suffrage" is where we first heard the jazzy tunes. The most "swinging" jazzy tunes are present in "Swing Rave". "Pickled Heads" is the most violent song of the album. It opens with electronic distortion played under some weird, electronically distorted voices. The track continues as a bit of a hard rock track then becomes jazzy, and then circus like before ending to trombone grunts. This is without a doubt the most diverse track. "Titus Vow" is another one of my favorites. The beginning of the track sounds a lot like Final Fantasy (hence why I like this one), then the music shifts to a longer version of Demolition Man's "Confronting the Chef". This is a cool, fun, "action" track ending in atmospheric noise with electronic percussion. "Finale" is my favorite track of the album. After the beating Goldenthal gives us for about an hour, we get 8 minutes to relax as we ascend into the sky-whatever. The track is soft in repeated loops sounding a bit like chimes with other weird combinations, but overall it's "soothing". This is a great soundtrack. A must own for Goldenthal and non-Goldenthal fans alike.

I loved Julie Taymor's film. This soundtrack is the perfect compliment to Taymor's visually stunning movie.
