Product Description

Size: One Size | Color: Black

With many of today's wireless devices being Bluetooth technology-enabled, especially common electronics like cell phones, lap top computers, and MP3 players, it made perfect sense for Tivoli Audio to add this important capability to our most popular portable radio, the PAL. Tivoli Audio's PAL BT adds Bluetooth wireless technology in addition to its sensitive analog AM/FM tuner. When you're not listening to your favorite radio stations, you can listen to your favorite music from your Bluetooth technology-enabled device. Just switch to the Auxiliary position and once paired, start listening to your music. It's that simple. Before the PAL came along, portable audio usually meant poor sound. Not so with PAL BT. Thanks to Bluetooth wireless technology's advanced A2DP profile, combined with the PAL BT's trademark equalization, you'll never tire of hearing your music. And since Bluetooth wireless technology is wireless, you won't have to dig out an audio cable for your enabled-device every time you want to listen to your music through the PAL BT. But don't worry, the Auxiliary input is still on board, along with the Headphone output, so you can continue to connect those "old fashioned" wired devices. True portability requires portable power, and that's where the PAL BT's NiMH battery pack comes in. It has no memory, and fully charges in about 3 hours. Since it provides hours of cordless playback, you can spend more time listening and less time searching for a power outlet. Our most popular portable radio just made a lot of new friends.

If you are in the market for a bluetooth speaker, you have a plethora of options these days and a lot of them are quite worthy of consideration. The Bose® SoundLink® Bluetooth Mobile Speaker II - Nylon, the Sony RDPXF300iP 30-Pin iPod/iPhone Speaker Dock, and the Jawbone JAMBOX Wireless Bluetooth Speaker - Black Diamond - Retail Packaging are all excellent choices, and they are all around the same price. You have to know what you are are looking for. Each one sounds a bit different and will be suitable for different styles of music and different aesthetic needs.

Unlike the aforementioned products, the Tivoli PAL BT is not primarily a bluetooth speaker. It is primarily a highly engineered analog AM/FM tuner that happens to have bluetooth capability. As far as portable radios go, you are simply not going to find anything that sounds better, especially if you listen to jazz and classical music. Right now I'm listening to a live performance of Verdi's La Traviatta on public radio and the voices are so clear, the orchestra so full and vibrant, that I feel like I'm sitting in the front row. The speaker and tuner are seriously that good - but this comes as no surprise. The

i love the aesthetic of the product but i'm quite frustrated with the Bluetooth on the device. its reach is not far at all and breaks up. Battery life is also not as long as i would have hopped.
Overall, the product is OK.

Some of the reviews on this product make it seem like this is a horrible radio. Its not. Its quite above par. Not stellar, but definitely better than most radios. I wouldn't say get this if the price is quite a bit more than the regular PAL, because the Bluetooth (BT) function (which is the main difference) is really annoying with iOS devices.

The Good:
Fully charged battery lasts quite a long time between needing to be recharged
Finish is gorgeous for being plastic, even though its not classy as all the other Tivoli radios, it holds its own quite well.
It feels sturdy and has a great heft
Sound is excellent. I'd say I like it better than my Model 10 stereo setup

The Bad:
Power cord has a huge transformer (aka wall wart), but luckily, you don't have to keep this plugged in all the time

The Ugly:
Here's where I knock off a star. I would consider dropping it two stars, but for the price I paid, I'm not going to be mean:
The Bluetooth function with iOS 7.x devices isn't ready for prime-time.

It took a few times to initially pair my iPhone 5S with the PAL BT. But once set up, then anytime I switch the PAL to BT mode, it does NOT automatically connect (it should if only one device has been set up with PAL).
And when you try to manually connect, there's more than 50% chance it won't connect the first time. You have to keep going to iOS BT settings and clicking on BT devices to force it to connect. You are lucky if it connects second time.
I'm hoping this is a iOS issue, so that a software update could fix it. But if its is issue specific to PAL BT, then we are out of luck :(

I love the radio and for the price I paid, I have no regrets. But if you are on fence between the regular PAL and the BT PAL, I suggest stay with the regular one, unless the BT version is significantly cheaper.

This is my 4th Tivoli radio. My 10 year old yellow Pal is still sounding great. Adding bluetooth to the Pal is a great idea and makes it more versatile. Yes, it is expensive but you will not regret your purchase. Customer service is great if needed. This radio does not deserve a one star review.

I was very excited about the potential of this product to be a Swiss army knife for portable solid sound... on the go, outside, extra room, travels.. I am a Tivoli fan and still find my Model One a marvel of size vs. sound quality. This product doesn't sound anywhere near the richness of the Model One and didn't meet my standards for high quality sound on the go vs. other products (notwithstanding the size and other features).

I suggest getting a listen before buying.

I have several PALs and love the radio tuning portion product. PALs are portable, durable, great for taking to the beach or having with you outside doing yard work. The tuner tunes perfectly, pulls in stations better than most other portable radios.

The Bluetooth function? AWFUL.

It is maddening to try to pair a device like and iphone or ipad to the PAL BT because it will either take 5-6 tries, or it simply won't pair at all. I've had to stop myself from throwing this out the window because it is consistently far too difficult to pair. I've had this same bad experience with other Bluetooth PALs as well, mine is not a defective device. The product itself is flawed and needs to be fixed.

I strongly advise holding off on purchasing this product until there is an acknowledgement and fix by Tivoli.
