I thought I was a monophonic purist until seeing a Consumer Reports review that rated the sound quality of the Kloss Tivoli radio above even the Bose, Boston Acoustic, and Cambridge models providing it was hooked up to the satellite speaker. So for fifty bucks, why not? The speakers are on nightstands parallel with my head, so the sound is hardly balanced. On the other hand, it's kind of cool to hear a trombone coming from one side of the bed and an oboe from the other. So thumbs up on the extra speaker, though I'm not about to go crazy and install the Kloss sub-woofer underneath the bed. Not only is it over-priced but even without the sub-woofer the speakers, to my ears, are already bass-heavy. Maybe I'll reconsider if my cat stops purring and the prospect of a vibrating mattress suddenly seems attractive.

I liked the sound of the Tivoli Model Three all by itself quite a lot, considering it's only got one mono speaker and it's just a little clock radio. I liked it so much that I purchased the companion speaker.

The companion speaker makes it sound really great. Considering this is a clock radio and mini-system, it sounds great! I highly recommend investment in the extra speaker for your Model Three.

To compare the pair to my eight-year-old mid-priced boombox and to my mid-priced computer speaker system with subwoofer, the Tivoli Model Three with extra speaker rocks!

I don't want the subwoofer. Your bass prefs might be very different from mine, but the Model Three with its companion speaker have plenty of bass for me. They seem wonderfully balanced between treble, bass and midrange, at least given my placement and room acoustics. (The Model Three itself offers no bass-treble adjustment, while the subwoofer does. Strange, but the basic pairing of the Model Three and speaker just works.)

If you're thinking of ordering the subwoofer, I suggest you wait and try the Model Three with only the companion speaker first. But there are those who say the subwoofer is audio nirvana.

Con: If you play the Model Three with the companion speaker really loud, it sounds distorted.

I like the compactness, aesthetics, and sound so much that I'm planning on ordering the $200 <ouch> CD player. Probably from Amazon. Amazon has delivered as promised in all my experience with them.

Love the Audio quality...Tivoli has this down. Nice lows. Now externally, the Cherry finish on my "Model 3" speaker just doesn't match in the least my Tivoli Model 3 Clock radio. When there are side x side, which unfortuantly they are, it looks as if I'm the one aesthetically challanged. I have to say to myself "well at least it sounds good" Tivoli, oh Tivoli...

After five+ yrs with my Model Two, the voice coil of the right channel external was shot. Got on amazon and found a seller right here in WI with one left. I got it the next day! Hard rockin' HiFi Heaven in Green Bay! Granted, it doesn't match my original in color, but the new speaker has the old Tivoli sounding sweet again. The RCA plug actually has a tight fit onto the main radio unit! This is my biggest complaint of the Tivoli's...shotty connection jacks/components/cables. I'm just pleased I got in on my model before all the price increases...even finding a better than standardized price for the time! And, this purchase, I feel, was $70 well spent to extend the life of a good original investment. Don't believe I'd buy this Model Two again at the new prices though...just couldn't go there.

just a point of interest that the people at tivoli say they don't make a front firing speaker for the model three so this is really for the model two. the model three companion speaker is a top firing speaker. i hope this mis advertising gets corrected
