More About the Author

Kate Collins is the author of the national best-selling Flower Shop Mystery series and historical romance novels. For her mystery plots, Kate draws upon her own love of flowers and intrigue, and an intimate knowledge of life in a small college town. She states firmly for the benefit of all who live near her that none of the zany characters that populate the fictional town of New Chapel are based on people she knows. Honest.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Caught the Leaf! November 12, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I pre-order this series before the announcement even dries. Yes, I have the next one on my list to order which should tell you, This book was fabulous.

Abby and Marco our Private Investigator couple, who own a flower shop and bar as well, are caught up in a personal case as they attempt to plan their wedding (and, I better receive an invitation.) Grace Bingham, an employee/friend of Abby's "Bloomers," walks into a murder scene of her friend, the wealthy Mrs. Newport and the police think they have their killer.

To add to the seriousness of this situation, Abby is also trying to take care of her cousin's woes as she nurses back to health a kitten, Jillian thinks she ran over. This causes Simon, Abby's cat to move to "Bloomers" and wreak havoc. Then the real shock hits, Grace is left Mrs. Newport's mansion, and fortune if she will take care of "Charity" a cat!

There are some obstacles of course, like distasteful family members, art thieves, stolen cats, and a murder to solve.

To me, one of the best things in this book was the introduction of a new character, Lindsey. When a series is past a dozen novels, it is such a refreshing touch to not only have a new person, but a mysterious one to boot. I vote to keep Lindsey in the upcoming dozen as there is such potential there.

Author Kate Collins does her beloved husband's memory proud.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Traditional Mystery with a Modern Twist November 23, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
With her family and friends now in full throttle planning Abby Knight's marriage to bar owner/investigator Marco Salvare, Abby thinks that she's finally hit the perfect stage in her life. At least that's until Marco's mother decides to postpone her departure to help plan for the wedding, Abby nearly runs over a cat in the road, and her Bloomer's flower shop employee is accused of murdering a wealthy friend. With poor Grace Bingham so depressed by the suspicion that she loses her ability to drop quotations at the drop of a hat, Abby has little choice but to investigate the dowager's voracious and predatory family. Even more suspicious is that the principle heir, Charity the cat, has gone MIA, and Grace herself was named as the kitty's caretaker.

In TO CATCH A LEAF Collins goes back to the traditional; a rich widow is murdered, her heirs are greedy and shallow, and a missing cat inheirits a fortune. Naturally, this leads to many suspects, a kitty with a target on its head, and the caretaker of the cat pinpointed as the most likely culprit. Fans of this series will find much to like, as the author brings back her readers' favorite characters. Abby's mother continues to create "artwork" that she foists on Abby's flower shop, Abby's over-the-top cousin Jillian attempts to take over Abby's wedding and her investigation, and the ever-hunky Marco provides investigative support and sex appeal. New readers to this series will also find this an easy series to slide into, as Collins writes breezy, engaging, and very humorous mysteries that make for a perfect escapist read.

4.0 out of 5 stars wonderful amateur sleuth November 1, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Having finally flushed away her doubts, Bloomers flower shop owner Abby Knight is engaged to Marco Salvare, owner of Down the Hatch Bar & Grill. When Abby finds an injured cat, she takes the animal to the vet, pays the bills and brings the feline into her home until she locates and notifies the owner.

Abby's employee and friend Grace Bingham leaves the store to visit her buddy ultra wealthy Constance Newport. Grace is away from the shop for a long time before calling Abby explaining she found the body of Connie in what Grace believes is a murder. Since she reported the corpse, the cops have Grace at the top of the suspect list. However, the police are also looking at the victim's family and learn Connie was disappointed with her children and their spouses. The family members rage when the will states that Connie left her money to her cat Charity with Grace as the feline's guardian. Thus a motive surfaces that has the police renewing their efforts to prove Grace killed Connie. While jewel and art thefts complicate the murder whodunit, Abby and Marco investigate those living on the late Connie's estate and quickly find a retinue with reasons to kill their benefactor.

The latest Flower Shop Mystery (see Night of the Living Dandelions) is a wonderful amateur sleuth starring the cute lovebirds cooing and clueing as they search for a killer and a thief. The protagonists are easy to like as they are caring, concerned people who are there for their family and friends. Although the action is limited with much off stage, readers will enjoy Kate Collins' To Catch a Thief, a thief and a killer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than ever!!! November 25, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Kate Collins has done it again. To Catch A Leaf is what, number twelve in the series? And still the story is fresh, the wit is quick, and the characters are ever-evolving.

As a male reader it takes a lot to hold a pink book in front of your face on the subway, or in front of your friends during half-time, (or at work.) But I hold it up, high and proud because I am a true fan. I really enjoy trying to figure out whodunit, but what I like most about this series are the characters. Not just the main characters either, but the entire cast. It's like a long running television show that stays fresh because the new characters introduced are just as likable and memorable as the original cast.

I have to say that To Catch A Leaf is my new favorite, and I have no doubt that this series will be around for a while, so my only question is...

When is the television series coming out?

Keep up the good work, Kate!
