For any teachers out there who are using the book version of this story in their classrooms, the play version is an excellent resource to differentiate instruction and make the story more accessible for more struggling readers.

What's not to love about this classic? Heartfelt and courageous, it worked on many levels then as now. This stage adaptation uses the adult Scout (now Jean Louise) as a narrator to cover the insights she gained later in life, while looking back at her childhood. It differs from the movie version, but both select poignant aspects and beautifully convey the message of the mockingbird.

For years, I , and many other stage directors have been looking for a stage play of TKAM which could even begin to get near the beauty and wisdom of the book or movie. This doesn't do it. It is full of too much narrative and rushes through important subjects and skips some entirely. Generally, a disappointment. I'm still waiting for the script.
