About the Author

Bear Grylls has become known around the world as one of the most recognized faces of survival and outdoor adventure. His journey to this acclaim started in the UK on the Isle of Wight, where his late father taught him to climb and sail. Trained from a young age in martial arts, Bear went on to spend three years as a soldier in the British Special Forces, serving with 21 SAS. It was here that he perfected many of the skills that his fans all over the world enjoy watching him pit against mother-nature. Despite a free-fall parachuting accident in Africa, where he broke his back in three places, and after enduring months in military rehabilitation, Bear went on to become one of the youngest ever climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Bear went on to star in Discovery Channel's Emmy nominated Man Vs Wild and Born Survivor TV series, which has become one of the most watched shows on the planet. Off screen, Bear has lead record-breaking expeditions, from Antarctica to the Arctic, which in turn have raised over $2.5million for children around the world. In recognition of his expertise and service, Bear was appointed as the youngest ever Chief Scout to 28 million Scouts worldwide, awarded an honorary commission as a Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Navy, and has authored 10 books, including To My Sons.

This little book is a message from Bear Grylls to his children regarding how they should live. It is filled with memorable and insightful, pithy sayings along with some relevant Scripture passages from the Bible. The book is moving because it displays a father's love to his children who wants the best for his sons in all things motivated by a sincere faith in Jesus Christ. Though the book is small and inexpensive, it is handsomely published. It would make a good gift to fathers who will in turn read it to their children as it is humorously illustrated to enhance the message of the book.

Anyone who has ever watched Bear Grylls' adventures on "Man vs. Wild" can't help but amazed at his spirit of adventure, ingenuity, courage, wisdom, and passion for life. In this little book Bear Grylls gives his favorite Bible verses, life quotes, and wisdom and dedicates this collection to his boys. It is a wonderful compilation for any Father to seek to implement in his own life and emulate for the lives of his children. Grylls emphasizes a love for Jesus Christ, a love for others, and maximizing your time in life by serving others. Let me share some of my favorite quotes from the book:

"Aim to live a wild, generous, full, exciting life--blessing those around you and seeing the good in all."

"Have a few close friends who you see often--their friendship matters more than having many shallow acquaintances."

"Choose your job carefully--do work that excites you. It is where you will spend so much of your time."

"Cheerfulness in adversity is a key character trait in the game of life."

"Moments of doubt are part of life. Accept them and remember that Jesus Himself said, 'My power is made perfect in weakness' (2 Corinthians 12:9)."

"Understand that failure is an essential stepping-stone on the road to success."

"Give more than you take, especially with friends and family. See the best in people--as Christ does with you."

"Spend more time with your family and less at work--no one on their deathbed says they wish thye had spent more time in the office!"

"No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care."

"You have two ears and one mouth--use them in proportion: Listen twice as much as you speak!

This a cute quote book for anyone who needs to be reminded of the great things in life. I bought it for my 8 & 10 yr sons but there were a lot of quotes in there for me to reflect on. Really cute scribbled pics that Bear drew to go along with each quote. My boys and I try to remind each other of some of the quotes through out the day to help make us better people.

This is a book of advice from soldier, leader, adventurer, and most of all, father, Bear Grylls. Originally written as insight, from lessons learned, to Bear's young boys, it gives us great wisdom of the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual life of an admired man. I highly recommend this to any and all leaders, and to those who will one day become leaders.

This book is a selection of short, encouraging phrases some of which are accompanied by simple illustrations/sketches. With one "comment" per page, this book is an easy and quick, yet inspirational read. Although written to boys there are MANY captions in this book that are suitable and applicable for EVERYONE! Why not try reading a phrase a day at the dinner table? You might be surprised what discussions arise from it!

A beautiful letter at the beginning tells his boys how much he, the author, cherishes them. Some of my favorite (I liked them all) phrases are as follows:

"Be faithful - any old slime can cheat!"
"Cheerfulness in adversity is a key character trait in the game of life."
"Nobility is not a birthright - how we act in the big moments defines who we are."
"Manners really matter; in fact they make the man." ( I LOVE the illustration that accompanies this one!)
"Spend more time with your family and less at work - no one on their deathbed says they wish they had spent more time in the office!"
"Thank God for your many blessings; then go out there and blossom. It is okay to succeed."

This is a Christian book so some of the "lessons" are scripture based. However many are not and all boys, Christian or not, could benefit from reading them if they want to grow up to be decent guys!

My son says the pictures in this book are helpful and compliment the lessons. We would encourage all teen boys to read this book.
