Of the three McLain books this was one of my favorites right up there with Adam's story. I read these books out of order, first reading Wes's, which was great too but not my favorite, and then Daniel's followed by Adams's. I wish I would have read them in order because it would have given me a better feel for Daniel before reading his story but even though I didn't I still fell in love with him and Karlee. There's nothing like a wounded hero with a heart of gold falling head over heels and fighting it all the way though he was losing the battle at every turn. Karlee was a delight. She had so many doubts about herself and her worth yet she was brave, spunky, funny and ready to fight for what she wanted regardless of how others made her feel in the past. I loved her and was so happy to see her get her happy every after with the man of her dreams. This was a wonderful read and a don't miss. Definitely going in my keeper pile.
