Your heart will race, and your mind will fill with vivid images thanks to this writer. Mali is a great character. Grace Edwards a great writer. If you appreciate a "good book," click away and order this book!My personal disclaimer: I admit that I am addicted to these Mali Anderson mysteries. So much so that I am a little aggravated that I have read them all. A note to the Author: MORE, please!!

"No Time To Die" is a intriguing follow up in a trilogy of the series of Mali Anderson Mysteries. The storyline is captivating and is interspersed again with current and historical little known Harlem facts. This entire series is an enjoyable read.

The cover caught my eye and I bought it on a whim. This book turned out to be a non-stop read from beginning to end. I especially like the characters and how the story evolved. I'm rushing out to buy the first book to continue with this one the ball detective from Harlem. My hats off to this new detective series. I can't wait for Mali to solve more crimes.

A Toast Before Dying is a thoughtfully, engaging mystery. Mali Anderson, the ex-detective, has to solve a crime that a dear friend has been wrongly accused of committing, and in doing so, Mali uncovers the seedy underworld of Harlem nightlife and crooked politicians. The story is perfectly paced and has a very satisfying ending.

Grace Edwards takes readers through the streets of Harlem while solving the mystery of whodunit. The story flows very well and her descriptions of Harlem makes the reader feel they are a part of the streets. There were so many people capable of the murder that it took me to the end of the book to figure it out.

Both Mali Anderson mysteries were a delight to read. Edwards' style of writing leaves the reader in suspense until the end. I tried keeping up with the plot and solving the mystery, but the characters were unpredictable. I look forward to reading "No Time To Die" and "In the Shadow of the Peacock". I hope Edwards' novel is just as good as her mysteries. She is a very talented writer. Keep writing Grace F. Edwards!

Interesting premise, but predictable.,

I read the synopsis on the back cover and decided to give it a try. I could see that it was going to be a good premise, but it took one scene to disappoint me. Not to give anything away but Mali learns about a murder from dialogue that was simply unbelievable. Even though one of the two people speaking was supposed to be drunk, there was just too much information given at that time, especially since the characters already knew what had been done. It was a disappointing setup to begin the end of the mystery. I may read the first Mali mystery in the future, but not at this time. Great group of characters and Harlem history included, though.

This was a good book. I read it on a recent business trip. I was looking for a fresh new PI and Mali satisfied my quest. I have already recommended this book to a friend. I am going back to read the previous novel now. I look forward to her new book this year.

Three Cheers and Four Stars for A Toast Before Dying!,

This review is from: A Toast Before Dying: A Mali Anderson Mystery (Hardcover)
I really liked this book. If you had asked me right after I finished the last page, I would've told you that I loved this book, but after I thought about it awhile, well, like is good too! There were a few things resolved too quickly, a few too many strings left hanging for me to really love this book. I think hardcore mystery fans might be a light disappointed, but as I read only 4-5 a year I thoroughly enjoyed this. I loved reading about Harlem. Edwards does a wonderful job of balancing Harlem of today and yesterday. The characters are skillfully presented. Edwards gives the reader enough information to keep them vested and interested in the characters and story. I for one will buy the next Mali Anderson mystery.
