4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality & safety features
I really like this product, especially for the affordable price. Here are the positives & negatives I've experienced ...

Pros:
1. Boils water FAST and it's quiet too. Perfect for the office.
2. Great safety features. You really want a cordless unit for easier/safer filling and pouring, and the auto-shutoff and on/off indicator light do work...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Heating Element is NOT Concealed

This review is from: Toastess TJK-28W 1500-Watt 1-4/7-Quart Cordless Electric Jug Kettle (Kitchen)
I really like this product, especially for the affordable price. Here are the positives & negatives I've experienced ...

Pros:
1. Boils water FAST and it's quiet too. Perfect for the office.
2. Great safety features. You really want a cordless unit for easier/safer filling and pouring, and the auto-shutoff and on/off indicator light do work exactly as described. Also, the spout has a mesh shield and a plastic guard that prevent water from splashing out while boiling. Overall, no need to worry about accidents.
3. The plastic view-window with volume markings is on both sides of the unit, so you can see the water level from any angle.
4. Convenient storage: Relatively small footprint, and the cord wrap on the base, minimize counter clutter.

Cons:
1. It takes about 2 cups of water to cover the heating element, which can be less convenient if you just want a cup of tea.
2. The cord is only about 3 feet long. Fine for kitchen counters, but less so if you're using your office wall outlets/power strips.
3. The lid on mine sticks on one side, so I have to push to snap it into place (might just be mine though).

Overall I really like this kettle's quality & convenience. You can find pricier ones, but for the money, this one has all the necessary features and then some.

The heating element does look like stainless steel, but the whole thing is entirely visible when you open the lid and look inside the kettle. Also, although it is cordless, the electric contact between the base and the kettle is not located in the center of a round base but on the side of the oval base. I have to pay attention to the location of the contact before I dock the kettle back to the base.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT KITCHEN HELPER!, May 6, 2006

This review is from: Toastess TJK-28W 1500-Watt 1-4/7-Quart Cordless Electric Jug Kettle (Kitchen)
I absolutely love my toastess kettle. The water boils fast, there's an automatic shut-off, and being cordless, I can heat up water and then set it on the table for dinner. We use ours to help boil water faster for pasta, for soups, for tea, and for hot cocoa. I'm planning on getting one for my mother for Mother's Day because it has really taken the stress out of putting the tea water on in the morning and forgetting about it (we're both famous for this). I probably would have burned the house down by now with a regular kettle. This is definitely a keeper!

1.0 out of 5 stars you get what you pay for, April 24, 2007
This review is from: Toastess TJK-28W 1500-Watt 1-4/7-Quart Cordless Electric Jug Kettle (Kitchen)
If I could give half a star I would.

I had this unit for exactly 93 days and it just wouldnt turn on one day.

I used it less than 3 times a week. There are several drawbacks to this unit. It draws ALOT of electricity to run it. I could use the same socket to run anything else while this on. Water gurgles/spits out of the spout while its boiling and I have gotten burned. The spout is also poorly designed, the water doesn't come out in an even stream, it goes where it chooses and even out of the seam of the lid. The heating element is exposed inside the pot and makes it almost impossible to properly clean. The water does get really hot in a short amount of time but its not worth it.

I just bought the Braun WK200B about a week ago. It is everything this kettle isn't and so much more. Read the reviews on that one before you buy this one. Its a better choice all around. Save the shipping costs, time & headache, just buy the Braun first and pass this one up.

1.0 out of 5 stars poor performance, April 17, 2008
This review is from: Toastess TJK-28W 1500-Watt 1-4/7-Quart Cordless Electric Jug Kettle (Kitchen)
I regret i decided to save $$ and bought this kettle.
Problems:
- the unit feels cheap
- the heating element is not concealed, as the description leads you to believe. Instead it is a big coil, and you must pour enough water to coat it every time.
- after a few month of use the top opens only with some straggle
- Autoshut off does not work. So many times i found red hot coil inside an empty unit, who know how much electricity this waists!

My grandfather used to say "I am not rich enough to buy cheap things", I'll try to remember it better next time.

The other commentators stress features of this kettle that pretty much any cordless electric kettle will have. It pales in comparison to my old Hamilton Beach, however, in several respects. Well, really, one big one. It's a plastic object. And it gets very hot. Too hot. Hot enough that it smells like it's melting itself. I got this as a gift, rinsed it thorougly, boiled a pot just to clean it - and it stunk like melted plastic. Ran it again to try and get the smell out. Same thing. Rinsed it with cold water and tried again - still melted odor. The outside of the kettle near the heating element was very hot even after it shut off (a problem I didn't have with my previous kettle, which I lost in a move), and when I touched it a melted plastic film tacked on to my finger. You can bet I put this right in the mail back to Amazon. I normally would hesitate to return a gift, but I'd rather the person have his money back than this thing sit on my counter collecting dust.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unsatisfied and disappointed, November 7, 2007
I purchased the Toastess TJK-28W 1500-Watt on March, 11, 2007. Around 2 weeks ago, I started to notice that the heating element, which is asserted that "concealed stainless-steel heating element resists corrosion", is slightly peeling with mental-like small parcales.

I think the possible reason for the peeling of heating element is that the heating element is only coated with stainless steel.

I stop using it to boil my drinking water.

I have had this for a month and use it at least twice a day. It works like a charm and delivers hot water quickly. I love it that it shuts itself off when the water comes to a boil.

I bought this kettle for our office, since we needed boiling water for tea and such.
It does everything we need, and it's pretty.
We haven't had any problems with it, and it's been used several times a day. It works like a charm.
