4.0 out of 5 stars Good product. No on/off switch.
I bought the 3-plate warming tray as a present for my Mom earlier this year. I figure it'll come in handy for meals at holidays or family gatherings with many dishes. I've tried it out myself a few times. Here are my thoughts:

* It works as advertised-- you plug it for around 8 minutes to heat it up, and the food on it really stays warm for about an hour. (I...

2.0 out of 5 stars poor service
The TWT-40 warming tray works as advertised and was used at many gatherings at our house. That is, until we lost the cord. There is no on/off switch, so you must unplug the unit to turn it off. The plug was lost and Toastess International would not respond to several attempts to contact them. They have absolutely no useful customer service. My advice is if you buy...

(I timed it.)
* This is important: Plates with perfectly flat bottoms work better. More surface area in contact with the warming tray.
* The power cord is very short. If you plan on plugging in the warming tray while it's sitting on your dining table, you may need an extension cord.
* There is no ON/OFF switch. You turn it off by unplugging it. So you can't just leave the tray plugged in all the time on a counter somewhere.
* Presentation-wise, the warming tray looks nice. Not too cheap-looking. No problems with leaving it on the dining table when your guests come.
* When it says "3-plate", it means 3 individual-sized plates. With larger serving plates, you might manage only 2 plates. Knowing this, if I were to buy this tray again, I would probably get the 4-plate version.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can be used plugged in, November 3, 2009
This review is from: Cordless Warming Tray
I just bought this item after reading other reviews and wanted to add information I was looking for at the time. I was concerned about it only staying warm for an hour - most parties last longer than that. I was pleased to read in the directions that this can be safely used plugged in over an extended period of time. The unit cycles itself on and off to maintain the proper temperature. It also can safely be used with a proper extension cord. Three 11X7 glass dishes fit on it with room to spare. Two llx7 and one 9x13 fits, but more snugly. The unit itself is very heavy. I have model TWT-40 and the cord does come off. Hope this info helps! Only reason I am not giving it five stars is because I have not actually used it for a meal, but I have had it plugged in and it got hot quickly. I see no reason why it won't be perfect for large gatherings and family get-togethers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ready food stays warm, January 16, 2007
The cordless warming tray lived up to my expectations. I am enjoying not having to cover the prepared plates to keep them warm. The tray is attractive on the table, not too wide and cumbersome. The sides are contoured for easy moving around; however, it is a little tight for three dinner plates.

5.0 out of 5 stars warming tray, February 6, 2007
A Kid's Review
this tray is really unique in that you don't have a cord running across your dining room table when you have guests over. It really keeps things hot for at least an hour.

4.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary styling and large surface, February 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toastess TWT-40 Silhouette 1000-Watt Cordless Classic Stainless-Steel Warming Tray, 4 Plate (Kitchen)
This hot tray has the advantage over the old Saltons of having nice contemporary styling and not needing to be plugged in after it has heated, which means you can put it on a table or buffet with no nearby outlet. The large size has pluses and minuses: you can fit several dishes on it, but it's hard to find a place to store it as it won't fit in standard cabinets. It's also high off the table--a bit bulky in that regard. The surface is gleaming stainless steel, not glass like the old ones, but this apparently scratches, so be very careful placing dishes on it. Also a bit pricey--you can find used Saltons online for a fraction of the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars We use this every day!, January 22, 2010

Don't save these warming trays for company ... we use one daily even "just for us" since my husband hates cold food. Now the whole family eats a little more slowly and our family meals seem a little more civilized! One caution -- we inadvertently left one plugged in overnight and blew it out, but others have lasted now for several years with frequent use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great for Shabbat, December 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toastess TWT-40 Silhouette 1000-Watt Cordless Classic Stainless-Steel Warming Tray, 4 Plate (Kitchen)
I bought this to use on Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath when cooking is not permitted. I am using the tray as an electric blech (I also have it on a timer to conserve electricity), and it works GREAT! I took hot food out of the oven Friday before candles, placed it on the warming tray, and covered it with kitchen towels. The food was still piping hot when we ate 2+ hours later. Even better, the tray warmed refrigerator cold food to pleasantly warm-enough-to-eat on Saturday. I placed the dishes on the tray at about 8am, and the food was warm for lunch by about 12 or 1. My approach to halacha may be different from the norms in your community, so please take this just as "been there done that" advice, and consult your rabbi re: halacha. I can't comment on the product's durability, etc, since I've only had it a few weeks, but I am thrilled with how it works so far. It fits 3 9x11 pans easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, July 3, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Got this for my mother for Christmas after hearing her complain many times about how quick the food got cold. She uses it all the time when we are having a hot meal. I definitely recommend it.
My only complaint is the cord to recharge it is very short but luckily it recharges quickly and then can be placed in a more convenient spot. Otherwise, this is easily remedied by an extension cord.
