That said, I'm frustrated. There's a small extension on the lid that hooks into the machine and locks it so you can't accidentally open it while it's running. Not once but TWICE that piece broke off. I actually bought a second machine JUST to get a new lid.
Don't bother. Find another brand that's made better.
It is a small appliance, not for big jobs. The bowl holds up to 1 1/2 cups of food. Cut food into uniform 1/2 inch pieces before processing. The unit is safe to use as the blades will not spin unless the lid is locked into place. My impression is that Toastmaster thought of everything and provided an excellent value for the $11.99 price.
I figured at the price of this "Chopster" thing, if it breaks anytime soon, I can just buy a few more. When my dad opened it up for Christmas, he was surprised at how sturdy the thing was. Simple too, you put on the chopping cup, then fill it with what you want chopped up. The last step is to put on the lid, and push the big button. It's a plug-in device not a battery powered one, so it has good power. My dad likes, and uses it all the time. I just got him a Subway sub the other day, and my dad was able to chop his up the way he wanted, and eat it with a spoon.
Just by looking at the picture, I think you can see that it's easy to clean. The chopping cup comes off easily, and it can be rinsed off in the sink, or even put in the dishwasher if you so desire. I'd consider taking it out before the drying cycle, even though it says its dishwasher safe, heating elements may warp it. I've used the Chopster myself a few times, and it works great. If you put in mixed items, like my dads sub sandwich, the lighter stuff like the bread, sometimes just stays on top. If you break it down a little, it chops up fine.Read more ›
This cleans up very easily, goes right in the dishwasher (I have used a heat dry and it has not warped it, but I make sure I only put it on the top rack). The blade still chops great, but as others have said, this is NOT made for heavy duty chopping of ice or hard veggies. For soft-cooked foods it is perfect!!
Not only that, but it is cheap enough that you can buy two to rotate through your dishwasher cycle and always have a clean bowl and blade ready to go!
Pluses: Small, compact, works well for baby food preparation. Safety feature built into the lid - the unit will not work without the cover on it properly. Takes up no counter space and stores in a drawer if you want.
Minuses: Does not chop ice, raw meat or hard veggies well. I wouldnt even attempt doing it with this chopper.
If you have larger amounts to chop up you can batch. Or use your larger and no doubt more expensive Cuisinart (like I do) when processing large batches of food.
Since this unit is small for me it is much more convenient to use than my larger, much more expensive, and cumbersome to haul and and then clean fancy schmancy Cuisinart.
My last mini chopper was almost identical in design and I used it weekly for two years. So this one is more than worth the try me-buy me risk. Got this one because I liked the large power button on the top. Instant on and off thus helping to prevent over processing.
Like every food processor/chopper I have ever used, the lid and bowl must be properly lined together or no love. Safety first I suppose!
And when it eventually breaks, at under 15 dollars you will not feel badly chucking it out. It comes with a warranty of some kind but for the price I threw it out. That's me.

It works very well, the directions were not so clear on how to get the bowl off the base. If you have small hands, do not get it. Read morePublished on November 12, 2013 by caryzoo
