5.0 out of 5 stars Good Low-end Mixer
Better mixers are out there than this Toastmaster hand mixer but not at this price.

The features which are important come down to ease of use and quality of use. In both regards, this mixer does fine.

Ease of Use
The device is light weight, easy to maneuver in whatever is being mixed, and the six speeds are within the reach of a thumb...

1.0 out of 5 stars chrome plate of beater falls off
After using it several times to beat whip cream, chrome plate of the beater started to fall off. Regarding the price, I would not complain, but I also would not recommend to anyone expect for those who love to have chrome particles sprinkled all over their cake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Low-end Mixer, August 25, 2005

Better mixers are out there than this Toastmaster hand mixer but not at this price.

The features which are important come down to ease of use and quality of use. In both regards, this mixer does fine.

Ease of Use
The device is light weight, easy to maneuver in whatever is being mixed, and the six speeds are within the reach of a thumb.

Quality of Use
The six speed switch controls the pace of the blades/beaters. The beaters are standard, and are found on any basic mixer.

The beaters eject with the push of a button, and clean like any utensil. They are dishwasher safe.

The appearance of it is ordinary. As it usually stays put away, how attractive it is does not matter to me.

If your question about this mixer is whether or not it mixes as advertised, it does. For most of us, this is enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Enough., August 30, 2005
This review is from: Toastmaster 1778 Hand Mixer (Kitchen)
Stay away if this is your only mixer. Just not strong enough for certain jobs. But as the proud owner of a heavy stand mixer, I find this does just fine for the light jobs. In fact I use it more than the stand mixer. And the price is unbeatable.

This is a good mixer, but not great. The beaters can slip a bit and it each other. It hasn't died, so my only complaint is with the beaters slip, but for the price, it is a minimal annoyance.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fast, faster, or even faster..., November 21, 2006

This mixer has many speed settings, but they all pretty much go the same speed. The "low" setting is so fast that if you are mixing much liquid it spashes all over. I would not recommend this mixer, spend a few more dollars and get a better one!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars broken within 6 months, March 1, 2008
I used it less than 10 times (to make cakes only). Not sure whehter the engine burnt out because it didn't smell like that. Very disappointed.I will get a better one next time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small but mighty, January 6, 2008

This tiny hand mixer did yoeman's duty during the Christmas holidays with the numerous cakes, pies, and cookies I had to bake. This small mixer might fool you because it is so small, but it handled all tyoes of batter, even the really heavy type. I own a Kitchen Aid but found myself pulling this hand mixer out because it was so much easier and lighter. A wonderful product!

1.0 out of 5 stars too fast, makes a mess, November 26, 2007

I am now searching for a new mixer. I bought this in the supermarket. It was cheap, but I have spent more time cleaning food off my walls, floor, counter and clothes (and hair!) with this one. The lowest speed is so fast, it doesn't really mix, it more spits food everywhere. what a mistake. It's a shame, too, because the shape was very comfortable!

However, I think I'll spend the money on a good Kitchen Aid.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK for the money, April 2, 2007

The seller above was right, you get what you pay for.

Although this item does exactly what it says I should have invested more money into a better quality machine.

This machine does have different settings on it BUT the slowest speed mimics the highest speed with a slight difference. While trying to mix just a small batch of muffin mix the mix flies all over simply because there is no slow speed as indicated. You either mix at high speed or what appears to be high with an attitude. Nothing in between.

If you are looking for something to use where you can mix at different speeds, I would not recommend this machine. If you want something that will mix at a slow speed because there appears to be no speed slower than high, than find another machine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Engine burnt out within less than a year, February 20, 2007

I think this is fine for the price you pay. I used mine quite a bit (maybe once every week or two), and the engine burnt out on it within less than a year. I was making my own frosting with it, so beating pretty thick mixtures and that may have been the problem. I will go for a better quality set this time.
