Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Adjustable for slicing cheese, sandwich meats, roast beef, bacon, bread, and vegetables like tomatoes and zucchini from wafer-thin to extra-thick, this compact, 90-watt electric appliance makes it possible to slice unlimited quantities of food quickly, safely, and uniformly. For safety, the slicer requires two hands to operate, one pushing food into the 6-1/2-inch stainless-steel blade by means of a sliding platform and the other continuously pressing a button so the blade operates. The sliding platform has a guard to prevent hands from getting close to the blade and a rail for grasping and pushing. A transparent plastic food press attaches to the feeder's rail with a hook. Grasping that hook and the rail simultaneously allows one-hand operation while also pressing food toward the blade. The food press's face is covered with points that grip food securely.

Included with the unit is a 9-by-8-1/4-inch transparent plastic serving tray. The sliding platform, food press, and blade remove for hand washing. Ruggedly constructed of cast aluminum, the slicer measures 13-1/2 inches wide, 9-1/4 inches high, and 8-1/2 inches deep and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

1.0 out of 5 stars Not even worth it!, August 17, 2002

This review is from: Toastmaster 6128 Food Slicer (Kitchen)
I was looking for a light duty food (i.e. meat/cheese) slicer, and decided to give this "inexpensive" product a try. The "inexpensive" turned out to be plain ol' [not good]. Motor is very weak, and tends to shuts off after few minutes of regular use (when I got it, the motor housing seemed so small that I had my doubts). Another major problem is the thickness adjuster. It does not matter what setting you choose, it does not hold it. It just moves with applied pressure. A third problem is the safety button, I found out that it really needs two hands to press and hold down the two buttons (the On and the safety buttons).

Simply, after the first use, I decided to no longer own this product. I will to continue to search for a better one, and I expect to pay more for a real solid light duty slicer.

1.0 out of 5 stars plastic parts, September 4, 2002

Toastmaster slicer worked beautifully until the plastic adjustment knob broke. No replacement part was available from the manufacturer. This makes the product useless

3.0 out of 5 stars A good machine once it's modified, January 11, 2007

The Toastmaster Food Slicer is a solid, well-built machine that slices well. I didn't like the safety-feature built into the power switch, which requires constant use of one hand to keep the power on, leaving only your one other hand to hold the food you're slicing, which is very inconvenient and could be a safety hazard; so the manufacturer's safety feature is somewhat self-defeating. I modified the machine to disable the safety feature, which yielded a machine whose performance I am very satisfied with.
