I was so happy when I purchased this item for Christmas 2002!
However my initial joy gave way to great disappointment within a four week period. After a few uses, the larger of the two burners stopped working completely. I contacted Toastmaster, only to be informed that the only service center in Florida was in Orlando and shipping to send the item for repair would cost me approximately $11! Almost half the original sale price ...
I contacted Amazon and they offered to accept a return...

But by the looks of the other reviews here, I guess I did better than most. It took mine 11 months to break. Worked great (slow to heat up, but that's okay), until yesterday when it started to smell and then smoke came pouring out. After reading other comments I can see it's not worth trying to get it fixed. Now I'll need to buy another hotplate, but it definitely won't be a Toastmaster. I will never buy a Toastmaster product again. For the $40 I paid, it should have lasted a lot longer than 11 months. Don't waste your money.

I used this product for about 9 months. The large
burner failed (thermal cutout) then the temperature
control failed the next day (overheated). The unit
looks good and cooks good, but needs to be made more
reliable. At the price, its hardly worth sending in for
warranty repair / replacement even if I had saved the
receipt. I will not buy it again

We bought ours some time ago and have enjoyed it. However, the large burner does not work now. Based on the problems getting it serviced and the real possibility of yet another failure, I plan to break into it and try to fix it, even though it's in warranty. Would definitely not recommend the purchase.

Large burner failed after about 12 months use. I opened it up the wire between the plug and the resistor had burned. Not only is it broken, it is a fire hazard. I lost all the paperwork that came with it and I probably voided the warranty by opening it. I think I can fix it but I am not going to risk a fire, so I will try another brand.

I was very happy to discover this hotplate with fully enclosed burners. It makes cleaning easy. I have purchased 7 of these in the last 2 years for my rental apartments. Unfortunately, 3 of them have burned out recently. The inline fuse for the larger burner has burned out in each case. Not a replaceable part. Not sure if they are burning out in normal use or if the burners are left on without food in a pot/pan.

We purchased this burner in October of 2002. Now in March 5 months later the large burner has stopped working. From the other reviews, it sounds like this is a consistent problem. Also the burner is advertised as 1500watts, but that really means 1000watts on the big burner and 500watts on the small burner.

Look for something else.

I liked the single burner version of this so much that I bought the double burner. I used the single burner as an adjunct to my gas stovetop. It worked consistently well with regular use for the last two and a half years. (It still works fine!) I've had the double version for six months and it is still working like a charm. The range of heat choices is particularly nice. Once you know what works with a particular dish, it becomes pretty foolproof.

It's nice for family gatherings where cook space is limited. Also, the lowest settings are great for buffets.

I was drawn to the design, and it doesn't disappoint. It's very streamline, with smooth cook surfaces unlike the older models with the electric coil exposed.

Bad quality, not so durable. Large burner died with 2 months of normal use. I put this product in the trasher.

When it was working properly, it peformed well, but very soon after purchasing it, one of the burners stopped working, and never resumed normal operation. Trying to replace the item was not customer-friendly easy.
