EGGtraordinary Performer - - Very compact,

Despite the negative reviews posted, I ordered this egg cooker. This little gem is great, and performs just as described (if you read the instructions first). Use this once and you'll find any measuring references you may need in the future are as easy as looking at the embosed pictures on the water beaker. As far as not having all sorts of adjustments, who needs them ? Your just cooking an egg! An On and off switch is fine with me. I suppose the manufacturer could have added a bunch of extras, but all this would do is increase the price, and increase the odds of having a part fail. The buzzer sounds loud enough to let you know to tend to your heat producing, electric appliance. Obviously the manufacturer placed it's concern for my safety before my comfort level with the buzzers sound level, a much appreciated feature. If this buzzer upsets you to the point of nervous shaking,(as a few reviewers reported), I think you may need something more than a hard boiled egg, lol. I was surprised with all the gripes, that no one complained that it didn't peel the egg for them. The Egghead is very compact, truly an appliance that won't gobble up your precious counter space. Its round shape is about the size of cantaloupe melon and rests on three small feet that keep it very steady. It's attached power cord is a generous 36 inches long. As for the under twenty dollar price that Amazon sells this for, how can you go wrong? Go ahead and order one, it's unique, convenient, and fun.

THIS IS LOUD! But it works well....,

I got this mainly to poach eggs, and in that respect it seems to work rather well. With the exception of the fact that it took me 20+ minutes to figure out the best way to set the poaching trays in the cooker. They're still not in there in the truest sense of the word "secure". The instruction manual has no pictures, so you just have to rather guess in this regard. It cooks the eggs by heating some water you measure and place in the base of the cooker with a special provided measuring device (shot-glass looking thing) which doubles as the egg piercing device when you turn it upside down (which might be rather dangerous if you have children who might get their mits on it). The cooker seems to pay attention to how hot the water is and buzz when it hits a certain temperature; it's not time based. In this regard it works at what it's supposed to do well. It cooks the eggs very well and to just the right consistency when making poached eggs. I've also made a hard boiled egg in it and that worked fine as well. However just exactly how much water you put in isn't specified for anything except one sample. For instance, on poached eggs, 2 med. eggs is supposed to take a #5 of water, but if you're doing large eggs, you have to guess how much more water that would be. The largest problem with this cooker (As other's have mentioned) is the alarm when the eggs are done. I swear deaf people can hear this thing it so loud. I really think they use old fire alarms from high schools. You cannot make eggs for breakfast in bed without waking up the person in bed, even if they're on the other side of the house. My car horn isn't as loud.... (I'm not exaggerating...) I too, suggest you keep looking, unless your deaf. Although it makes good eggs, the other flaws outweigh that plus in this device.

Excellent Perfect Eggs on First Try,
By A Customer

Egg head is fantastic! On my first try, my eggs were the most perfectly boiled eggs I've ever seen. No cracking or discolored green yolks. It's easy. As far as it not turning itself off, I would think the eggs would continue to cook. That's why you run them under water, to stop the cooking process, not just to cool them for peeling! I've read some complaints about the poached eggs being shaped like eyes. I think it's a pretty cool shape. The buzzer is loud, but I found that useful too. I love mine and hope it lasts well. I would buy this for anyone who loves boiled eggs without the hassel.

CAREFUL OF STEAM BURNS!!!,
By A Customer

I've used my new little Egg Head once and I have two steam burns, which are quite painful, and 2 poached eggs that were over cooked. My mom has an electric egg cooker that cooks the eggs much more acurately. I guess I'll have to fuss with the amount of water to perfect my egg production. My husband would also add that the buzzer that lets you know that the eggs are done is extraordinarily obnoxious. If you are looking for an egg cooker, my advice would be to keep looking...unless you are into pain!

Perfect hard-boiled eggs at last!!,
By Silverpen (Windsor, CO USA) - See all my reviews

I live at an elevation of 4500 feet and maybe because of this, I have never been able to properly boil an egg in the conventional way. But this little cooker makes perfect hard-boiled eggs every time! I add a little extra water to compensate for the low boiling point at this elevation.
The best things about the eggs are the perfect consistency of white and yolk, no green scum aroung the yolk, and easy peeling. The shell practically comes off by itself! The best things about the cooker are: 1. How easy it is to start the cooking process (measure and add the water, place the eggs in the cooker and pierce the top, put on the lid, press the On button). Couldn't be simpler. 2. The excellent eggs. 3. Easy cleanup (rinse the tray and lid, wipe out the interior of cooker). Easiest cleanup of all of my small kitchen appliances. About the buzzer: I think they made it loud because the eggs should be rinsed with cold water after cooking (although I forgot to do that the first time I used the cooker, and the eggs turned out perfectly anyway), and also for safety reasons. Here is a suggestion for folks who are worried about the loud buzzer or about the safety aspect: Plug the cooker into an electric timer that will shut off the power to the cooker. You can set the timer to turn off the cooker shortly before the buzzer goes off or shortly after. I use a Gra-Lab darkroom timer, but a digital timer like the ones sold at Radio Shack would work great. You can also use the timer for other small kitchen appliances that don't automatically shut off.

This little appliance is great! Cooks perfect eggs every time; no more mushy undercooked yolks, no gray layer around overcooked yolks, just bright yellow perfect yolks! The eggs also cook fast and the measuring cup with the needle, for poking a miniscule hole in the egg, ensures that none will crack and break when they're cooking. Sure the buzzer is loud, but not any louder than a clothes dryer buzzer.
I'm so glad I bought this.

Oh, this toastmaster egg cooker works great.. Easy clean up... I read the reviews and everyone say it has a loud buzzer... Well, mine is not loud... It does not startle me.... no way does the buzzer compare to a fire alarm... If you want perfect eggs, I suggest you buy this item... you won't be sorry....

A wonderful little device,

I have owned this great little cooker for about a year now and it gets used at least 3 times a week. This was a well spent [money]. I am fond of poached egge as well as my children. With the "Egghead" they are cooked to perfection. The measurement scale on the water cup is elementary and simple enough for my 8 year old (with supervision). The signal is great if one is in another room doing something other than watching the eggs cook. One that has other things to do would appreciate it as well. Finally, this is a dream to clean, just wipe the base and toss the rest in the dishwasher and thats it....

Nowhere near what I'd hoped for,

I bought this as a gift for my wife, since she likes eggs and they're not so quick to cook the "old-fashioned" way. We've used it a few times, and found it doesn't really live up to our expectations. The idea seems like a good one: the unit heats a small amount of water and uses the steam to cook eggs under a sealed lid. In theory that might make cooking faster and more efficient, but this may be marginally true (it takes 18 minutes to hard-boil 6 eggs). While the cooker does do its job, to my mind the alarm it uses is enough of a reason not to recommend it. It produces the worst "all done" noise I've ever heard from an appliance -- a very loud alarm buzzer that sounds like it should be in a fire alarm. I wish it could have been designed to simply turn itself off when it was done.

Hassle Free Boiled Eggs,
By Perpetua "Perpetua" (Rochester New York United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Toastmaster 6506 Egg Head Egg Cooker (Kitchen)
My family is fond of egg & olive salad, and I'm one to put boiled egg in tuna salad, too. I'd always had trouble with boiled eggs, no matter how carefully I tried in regular boiling water, using a puncture pin and everything, I'd still get broken, "volcanic" eggs that were a mess. I've had the Egg Head for 3 years and absolutely love it. The eggs are perfect every time, whether it is one, two or more. The clean up is very easy, too. As mentioned, the "done" timer is really loud and startling but I think that is a good thing so you don't leave the eggs sitting to long and end up with less than perfect. I'm not a big "gadget" person, but this one is a real pleasure to own, doesn't take up much space and is charming even when sitting out on the counter.
