I'm not sure why people are giving this product such bad reviews. It's a toaster, how often are you really using this thing? I've been able to make pop tarts and regular toast quite easily with this machine. Here's a little instruction sheet for anyone not up to snuff on today's modern technology. 1) Plug toaster into wall 2) Insert bread, waffle or pop tart 3) Turn dial to desired browning level 4) Gently push button(s) down 5) Wait 6) Eat. It's really that simple, I kid you not! Don't abuse your toaster, treat it right and you'll have years of happy toast.

It's impossible to find another toaster this cheap...in more than one way. The quality on this toaster is pretty low, even for notoriously twitchy Toastmasters. The toaster has a very handsome appearance and has extremely wide slots for bagels and the like, but toasting can be uneven. Make sure you watch what you're toasting. Mechanically, there are a few problems with the toaster that give me pause for recommending this model. Whoever posted a review earlier is right -- half the time, when you push the lever down to toast, it doesn't catch. So you're stuck repeatedly pushing down the lever until it finally catches. Of course, I discovered a whole new problem in that when the toast *does* stay down, sometimes the toaster doesn't actually click on. So your bread is just sitting in there without being toasted. So is this toaster a good value for $5.99? Yes, if you really need a 4 slice toaster. But the mechanical problems that I (and others) have had make me wary about the durability and safety of this model. I'd only use it if I could supervise its performance at all times, and I always make sure to unplug it when not in use.

It's really simple really--a toaster should toast. That can't happen if the bread doesn't stay down. If you press and hold, again and again, it will catch. Maybe you'll have better luck with the quality of yours and take a chance as five bones is a very cheap price!
