This review is from: Toasts for Every Occasion (Paperback)
Jennifer Rahel Conover's talents are as many as the bubbles in champagne--endless and always rising to the top. Jennifer's pedigree, intelligence and wit are blended with her years of hobnobbing around the world to compile "Toasts For Every Occasion." Every host should own one. Every guest should give one as a gift! ---Kathleen Pickering, Author, "Echoes of Love"

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

If you are going to be giving a speech at a wedding or on some other occasion and want to give a beautiful, heartfelt speech, this is NOT the book for you. It is full of cheesy limericks and other nonsense that could not possibly be put in a speech. Save your money and find another book that doesn't sound like it was written in the eighteenth century!

Toasts by Jennifer Rahel Conover - reviewed by Olive Mullet
The reader might be first struck by the extent of the research for this book, the fact that the toasts come from all over (literature, her numerous sources at the end, from many countries and cultures - though the majority may be Irish). But I think the reader will most enjoy the wisdom and the humor. Just dipping into the book can't help but make the reader smile. Where the toast is hard to envision using, it is fun to read. But most are very usable, and Ms. Conover has done a great job of indexing and cross-referencing so that the reader can find what he needs, even easier than finding just the right card for someone. Ms. Conover has also added some very good toasts of her own. Her charming introduction shows how she comes naturally to this subject. And at the very end she encourages others to contribute to her collection. This is a very friendly book, easy to carry around, should you need it. |
