4.0 out of 5 stars A case of amnesia, May 9, 2010

This review is from: Toblethorpe Manor (Paperback)
I think this was one of Ms. Dunn's better books I have read. The blurb from back of the book: They called her Miss Fell for the spot where Richard Carstairs had found her--Daws Fell. He had carried her home in his arms and from the moment she opened her sea-green eyes in bewilderment and pain, she had captured his heart.

But who was she?
Despite her gentle manner, she might be only a governess-or even a butcher's daughter who had an education. Dare a man like Carstairs--who considered his only attribute to be his position in society--rish offering for someone who did not know her own name, let alone her station in life?

I liked how this story was presented: It was not the usual hero/heroine, it was heroes/heroines. Ms. Dunn gave equal weight among Miss Fell/Richard, and Richard's sister--Lucy and her fiancee--Charles, who happened to be Miss Fell's cousin; this stroke offered multi-dimensions to the story. The author also was thorough about covering all characters' whereabouts and feelings that they had experienced; these all contributed to an engrossed read. The only flaws were: 1. Richard was too hang-on on his "dark" look and his prejudice of Miss Fell's bloodlines was nearing annoying. 2. The villain uncle that initiated whole cause was nowhere mentioned later in the book, a mystery indeed. Otherwise, a good read.
