5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful read, July 23, 2008
This review is from: Hug Your Kids Today! 5 Key Lessons for Every Working Parent (Paperback)
I'm in my mid-50's. I finished reading your book this morning. I'm still a little lost for words on how to describe my personal feelings. I experienced some emotions that I haven't felt in a long time.

I now realize that I need to spend as much time with my granddaughter as possible (she just turned 19 months old). Samantha isn't really related, but I have considered my wife's daughter my own for a long time, so her daughter joins in as well.

Your book is fantastic. It really tugs at your heart strings at times, sends you into deep thinking mode, and makes you wonder what part we are supposed to play in the grand scheme of things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, wonderful story and wonderful advice for all., July 21, 2008
This review is from: Hug Your Kids Today! 5 Key Lessons for Every Working Parent (Paperback)
Although I am not yet a parent, this book really grabbed my attention. After reading it (it is well written and easy to read), I really felt that many of my life's goals and values learned by my parents were reinforced by the message this book provides, namely, show your love, always, to everyone you love, as often as you can. I am one of the fortunate ones who's parents made it a point to show love on a daily basis, often times, with just a hug and a quick I love you. I want to personally thank the author for writing such a wonderful book, with such a positive and important message. I hope others who are more challenged will have a chance to read this book and will wake up to the fact that life isnt about work, it isnt about careers, but it is about relationships and you never know how long relationships will last, so make the best of them daily... Give daily hugs...

5.0 out of 5 stars Make sure the message of love gets through!, July 17, 2008
This review is from: Hug Your Kids Today! 5 Key Lessons for Every Working Parent (Paperback)
Hug Your Kids Today! is a great book for anybody who is in any type of relationship. Bottom line for me was "Make sure the message of love is getting through!" No one is guaranteed their next breath, so we must be intentional in making sure we make the most of the moments with every relationship in our lives. The choices and actions we make and take today will determine the legacy we leave behind tomorrow, whether that is a negative one, or a positive one. Never underestimate the power of your choices in the moment-to-moments of your life. Your choices do have a lasting affect. May this affect always be described as and defined by LOVE!

I laughed and cried and identified through this book. It is an easy read and the author is great about pulling in expereinces that we can all identify with to help get the message and points across. I was in the middle of emailing the author when my son came up to me.....here is what I email the author after my son ran off, with his, and my, love tank full. "I am putting the lessons in your book into practice: my 7 year old son just came up to give me a hug and a kiss, and I pushed him aside, telling him I was busy trying to get this email off to you, and then the Holy Spirit quickened my mind and heart, thanks to the truth and wisdom in your book, and I stopped the email. I turned to him and asked what he wanted or needed. He said that he just wanted to give me a hug. I turned my chair around, pulled him in for a tight squeeze and gave him a great big hug and kiss. He told me he loved me and went off to do something else, with a spring in his step, a big smile on his face and a heart full of love. This act of love - and love is a verb - took less than 45 seconds, but will reap bountiful rewards of love and joy in my relationship with my son. If I am too busy for a hug and a kiss, I am too busy! Thanks for the love and time you put into this book. I am so much more mindful and intentional about taking the time to make my moments count with my kids...."

This is a wonderful work that the author has put her heart into as a loving and living memorial to her son. Her son left a legacy of love that now has the potential and opportunity to touch and forever transform relationships. I am reminded of what Tina Turner said in one of her songs, "What's love got to do with it?" My response is that love has everything to do with it - Love is IT!

My son and I were having some cuddle time a few months back and he said to me, "Mom, I am going to hug you until our skin falls off and we are just bones. Is that forever?" We both hope and believe that this is forever! Now, go hug those you love until your skin falls off and you are just bones - hug them forever!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read, July 14, 2008
This review is from: Hug Your Kids Today! 5 Key Lessons for Every Working Parent (Paperback)
This is a must read for every parent - working or not! The lessons in it are almost "duh" lessons but ones that we have all forgotten and Michelle so strongly reminds us to remember. She puts you at ease with her friendly, conversational style of prose, lets you into her family's heartbreak, yet shows how one can heal, gain strength and continue living. There are moments of sadness but mostly it is a very uplifting, important message. Everyone should read it and remember to Hug Their Kids - Everyday!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for everyone, July 13, 2008
This review is from: Hug Your Kids Today! 5 Key Lessons for Every Working Parent (Paperback)
As soon as I received the book I started reading it and couldn't put it down. It had tears, humor, and very good advise. After the death of my own son I discovered that when I closed my eyes I could feel his arms around me. We know that love never dies. Michelle, it is exactly the right book for only you to write. I feel everyone can benefit from reading your book

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Everyone, July 7, 2008
This review is from: Hug Your Kids Today! 5 Key Lessons for Every Working Parent (Paperback)
I read dozens of books every year, but the message of 'Hug Your Kids Today' is one that absolutely everyone should read. Michelle's family has been through a tragedy in their life, yet she tells their story in a way that gives a glimpse of the pain, but focuses on the love and healing they received and their passion for all to treasure each moment with those they love. This is a must read and should be given to everyone on your Christmas list!

This is a very compelling book to read. It captures a deeply personal issue in a way that every parent reader will connect with Michelle 's lesson on parenting.

It is a very emotional story told in an enlightening and a compassionate style, I felt like having a conversation with the writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! Could not put it down!, September 23, 2008
By
This review is from: Hug Your Kids Today! 5 Key Lessons for Every Working Parent (Paperback)
I read this book in one evening because I could not put it down once I started. Hug Your Kids Today reminded me of many things I already know, but in the 'busy-ness' of 'business' I sometimes forget. It has great ideas, suggestions and strategies for staying connected with kids, showing affection, and accepting and loving them for who they are. Whether you're a stay at home mom or a parent who works 80 hours a week outside the home, there is something in here that will speak directly to you.

One of my favorite parts of this book was reading about Mark's story; Nichols' 8-year old son who died of brain cancer. I enjoyed getting a glimpse into what a brilliant, insightful child he was and the wonderful message he left behind. "Tell a joke, share, and be a good friend." These are great words to live by for anyone of any age. The author's frank look at the devastation and horrible aftermath of losing a child makes you want to run straight to your child, hug them, and never let go.

While many parenting writers come across as preachy and flawless, I really appreciated the author's candor with regard to her own shortcomings, which all of us have and can identify with, and learn from. Nichols also gives readers simple strategies and ideas for building connections with kids and creating fun (sometimes crazy) memories in our families. Hug Your Kids is a super easy read, has fantastic anecdotes, and definitely has something for parents in all ages and stages of life. I loved it and have hugged my kids like crazy every day since!

Michelle, Mark me down as one of the read-it-all-at-once club. I almost feel honored that you shared this with the world. Thank you. I am already recommending it to others, including an online message board community I go to that has a book and blog forum. It has made a difference in my life and I know it will bless so many others.

5.0 out of 5 stars The power of love, hugs, and healing, August 27, 2008
This review is from: Hug Your Kids Today! 5 Key Lessons for Every Working Parent (Paperback)
I recently experienced the privilege of hearing Michelle Nichols speak at an eWomen Network event in Reno, NV. Her personal story and the wisdom in her message moved me deeply. Then, I read her book. It was journey of tears and laughter. A journey I am grateful that I took; a journey that I will encourage others to take. Everyone should read this book, parent or not; the message will advance humanity.
