You will need them after a semester spent reading this book. The print does not seem to be true black, rather dark gray, and it's on the small side. The purple charts and hightlighting do not help to emphasize important points, as several readers have mentioned. This is a text that must be read and re-read to be understood, at least by 2nd semester coding students like myself, and by the second hour my eyes are killing me! By comparison, my other textbooks have slightly larger print and the letters are darker. One good thing about this book...it's small and doesn't weigh much.

So not only am I dealing with almost daily headaches 'cause of the eye strain, I had to pay full price at the bookstore because Amazon couldn't tell me whether or not the CD would come with the book. FYI, the CD is a series of games, like hangman, that help you learn definitions of words and phrases. I could have lived without it. What would really help however, would be real life examples of the concepts Ms McWay writes about.

Maybe there's a better book for an entry level course in HIM, but this is the one my school chose so I'm trying to make the best of it.

The book is very elementary for the subject. This is a good bachelor's degree class book, too elementary for masters program. But the printing of the tables and figures is horrible -- all the tables and figures are highlighted in a purple graduated shading. The dark purple shading on the top with the black print makes it impossible to read the top of the table/figure. What moron at the publisher/printing company made that decision???

This book is excellent. Very comprehensive is healthcare overview and information technology. Well worth the money I spent.

Know your text books! Many of the used books offered do not tell you the CD that comes with the book will not come with your book. And they do not post the CD is not with the book or that there is even a CD that accompanies the book.
