This book should be issued to all new spouses.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Today's Military Wife: 4th Edition (Paperback)
"Today's Military Wife", 4th edition, is a great source of reference material. The book should be given to all spouses in all branches of the service. I found the sections on 'Socials and Protocols' very helpful, as well as the section on undertstanding the different ranks and insignias. Some sections, i.e. Your Money and Living Overseas, are very well thought out and provide excellent information. I have refered many new spouses to pick up a copy of this book.

Invaluable Tool for Newbies,

The author has done a wonderful job of imparting up to date information, as well as interjecting personal thoughts about military life. The book has excellent references throughout for further reading, addresses to obtain information, as well as listings of websites. I will continue to use my copy for a reference book for the remainder of my husband-to-be's career. Of particular help are the chapters on etiquette, and dealing with deployments. Mrs. Sloane has been of great help in authoring this book!

Although I am an Army Brat and was very familiar with military jargon and protocol, this book helped refresh my memory. I'm a Navy wife of 4 years and this book has been a great resource. You're sure to refer to this book over and over again. The book does a good job of describing things most relevant to military life...like MOVING!!!! Wish it had expanded more on the role of an officer's wife, but it's still a good book. Buy it if you are clueless about military life!

Being a military wife for almost 10 years, I make an effort to assist new military spouses adjust to and learn about military life. I decided to read this book so I could recommend it to others and I even learned a few things! It gives practical information for not only new military spouses, but for everyone wanting to find out more about military life. I wish I had this book when I first got married! The tips, resources, and bibliographies are extremely useful and the anecdotes add a personal touch. Well done!

Great information !!!,

This book is a lifesaver !! I was recommended to purchase this book when I married my former husband, who is in the Army, in 1992, and it was a tremendous help for an 18 year old bride who had no idea about the military lifestyle and customs. I think it's fabulous that Mrs. Cline has kept the book updated every couple of years. If you know of someone marrying a servicemember, do her a favor and buy this book for a shower gift !! You have no idea how much she will appreciate it in the long run !

As one who is marrying a military man, I found this book to be full of helpful advice and hints. I feel so much more prepared to enter the military lifestyle after reading this book. There are TONS of resources listed in this book, and they too, are very helpful! Lots of research was done in writing this book and it shows! Two thumbs up!

My Second Review,
By Hilary (Denver) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Today's Military Wife: 2nd Edition (Paperback)
I once gave this book a one star review. In fact, I was inspired to write my own book (Solo-Ops) after becoming infuriated while reading this book. After reading some of the other drivel and junk out there for military wives, I now believe that this one is one of the best (besides mine, of course:). It provides accurate information (which is more than a lot of similar titles) and plenty of it. It is boring because it is all about facts. It is an awesome reference and you can use it to look up about anything you need to know.Of course, I still believe that spouses need support and an honest explanation in addition to facts and information. That is the niche I feel Solo-Ops (the book I authored) fills. While it does not focus on facts, it does focus more on military life itself and explaining things the way I experienced them. I felt military wives needed to be prepared for the EMOTIONAL rigors of military life. I now realize that informational needs have to be filled in addition to emotional needs-- and not everyone starts out with the facts. I give credit to Mrs. Cline for providing a non-biased, well researched and accurate resource to the military community. I thank her for providing an informational book rather than one based on thoughts and opinions of military proceedure, rules, and regs. If you are looking for a good source of information, buy this book first. While others claim to provide information, they provide little more than lip service and opinions-- and most of the opinions are from Officers Wives who have no idea what an enlisted wife faces. Mrs. Cline is one officers wife who was able to leave her "Officer Wife" Dynamic out of her book. While I still do not believe this book is a complete resource or source of support, I think it is a great start.

Helpful introduction to military life,
By A Customer
This review is from: Today's Military Wife: 3rd Edtiion (Paperback)
Good overview of the basics of being a military spouse. Especially helpful to those who have had no prior exposure to the military. The book is written for a general audience, so it doesn't go into much detail or into the specifics of each branch (Army, Navy, etc.) Also, the social protocol/ettiquette section is very skimpy. Overall, though, it is a helpful introduction for spouses new to the military.
