These used to be great decanters years ago, but they've cheapened them and are obviously using less/thinner glass to make them, as they crack at the drop of a hat. You have to be excruciatingly careful with them to avoid this, avoiding setting them down on hard surfaces (or holding your breath to ensure that they don't break). I have cracked at least 4 of them, and this is occurring despite my taking extra care in handling them. The latest occurrence just happened when I moved something in the refrigerator and the tea I stored in it leaked all over everywhere. I suggest looking for a much sturdier glass decanter and not wasting your money on this!

Someone purchased the toddy maker for us as a gift to make cold processed coffee. I wound up using just this decanter to keep in the fridge with juice or water. It's a really lovely piece and comes with a lid (not shown in the photo, but it does come with one). Finding a simple, functional glass pitcher with a lid seems difficult to find these days. This piece does the trick.

I love this. I've found it very difficult to find a decanter that is glass, with a pour spout, a lid, and big enough opening to get my through the opening. When cleaning it you can fit your hand inside to make the washing easy, fast, thorough! I'm buying an extra decanter for iced tea - fits very easily in the fridge door - with no bulky handles. The handleless grip might not work as well for small hands, but it's comfortable for me. (Woman, size 7 glove.) I switched to the Toddy Brew system about 6 months ago, and love it. Smoothest, best coffee - I get compliments on my coffee from people who like it weak, and those who (like me!) like it strong. Was hesitant to get an extra decanter because one reviewer found that it breaks too easily. I'm careful with it, but not obsessively, and it's held up fine. That said, it doesn't have the heft of pyrex, or anchor hocking, but they don't make a lidded pitcher. Appears to be the thin borosilicate glass, very attractive.

I was given a Toddy coffee system for Christmas a few years ago. I love it, especially since ordinary coffee sometimes gives me heartburn. Shortly thereafter, I was given an ancient Toddy system owned by my grandmother. I don't know when she bought it, but it *looked* dated. The new toddy coffee system had a modern-looking carafe with surprisingly thin glass; not much thicker than lightbulb glass. The old one (which I actually gave away in order to spread the Toddy theology) was *heavy* and solid feeling, but looked, once again, a bit dated (think 1970's plastics). Sadly, after about two years of use, I knocked the modern carafe in the sink as I washed it and broke it to pieces. So, I ordered this carafe to replace it. After reading one of the reviews here, I was prepared to get a duplicate of the shockingly thin-glassed carafe I started with. But no! This Toddy carafe is THICK! The glass still is quite light, but it has a nice solid heft to it, and a much deeper "tunk" sound when I tap it (instead of the "tink" I used to get). I don't know when it was that Toddy decided to sell the thin-glass version, or when or why they increased the thickness, but frankly, this new carafe is *exactly* what I would want in a carafe. It feels solid, like tapping it in the sink (or setting it down firmly) couldn't possibly shatter it. It's the same size. It's modern looking, just as the picture shows. It's stamped with the TODDY logo on the front (unlike the old one; perhaps stamping would have shattered that thin glass). Heck, despite the description, it comes with a lid. I'd actually encourage anyone with a thin-glassed carafe to quick order a new one before the old one shatters, because it is much better (and safer!). If that one-star review here makes you worried; I know exactly what he's talking about, and it seems that they aren't selling that one anymore.

We have been making toddy coffee for nearly 25 years and love it. We accidentally broke our last decanter and needed the replacement. It was delivered in a timely manner and good condition. It even came with a new lid which it said was not included when I placed the order.

No problems with delivery. Glass decanter was in one piece. Had no idea I could buy a replacement for my toddy and have not had one for 17 years. Thanks

I really like this pitcher, so I was crushed when I broke it. It is thinner glass than other products (like Anchor Hocking's Glass Bistro Pitcher). It tipped over in the drying rack, hit another bowl, and shattered. Another product probably wouldn't have broken as easily, but as long as you don't exert too much pressure on it, it will be fine.
The grip is sturdy, and it stores 2 quarts. The lid is completely spill-proof, definitely the best lid I've seen on a glass product. I can lay the pitcher on its side, and the contents won't spill, which is pretty impressive.

the only difference is the lid secures much better and the word " Toddy " is on the side of
the decanter. Everything ( glass including ) is identical.
I buy these to take the place of the plastic decanters that come with the Toddy alternative.
These are of much better quality and most of all easy to clean !
But you might say, this is too much to pay for a decanter. Check the pricing on the replacements
for the other manufacturer. They are some cheaper but not enough so that I would buy one
opposed to the Toddy decanter.
