Carlos is the complete package!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Todo Lo Que Soy (Audio CD)
Unfortunately for Carlos his undeniable good looks present somewhat of a hindrance since many listeners tend to dismiss him as a pretty faced marketing ploy. But, in all fairness, Carlos writes the majority of his music (something young Latin pop stars today rarely do) and he does it well. It also gives him more credibility, something else I liked. His lyrics are not bubble gum cutesy despite his cutesy appearance. There is a depth to his songs that actually target a much older audience than you'd expect. That is why I enjoyed the CD. I was actually surprised that I liked it as much as I did since I don't normally like music by singers with teeny bopper audiences. But Carlos's music is different. It isn't tailored to that group. It is surprisingly mature and unique in its sound. It is fresh and original and easy to listen to. His voice is pleasant as well. It is a deep throated vibe that works as a nice contrast. I've also seen him perform and I think his true personality shines through on stage. He doesn't look like he's putting on an act. He looks like he actually enjoys what he does and that makes him all the more easy to enjoy. I loved this album as well as his first one, but I like this one better. I believe Carlos has got it all, talent, good looks and a great personality. Time will prove that he is here to stay!

Carlos Ponce- A review,
By Chris (US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Todo Lo Que Soy (Audio CD)
I must say that Carlos Ponce is no Ricky Martin. That is because, in my humble opinion, he is much better than RM. His music is not "sugary" like RM's, it's not "commercial sounding." His voice is a little on the raspy side, but it adds character and depth that some of the other artists lack. It sounds true and real. You get a sense that he really feels the words and truly understands the song...unlike other performers I won't mention. My advise to you is to listen to the CD and judge for yourself. I honestly enjoy this CD very much and hope you do, too. There are great songs on this disc, e.g. Todo Lo Que Soy, Sigues Conmigo; and I look forward to hearing more from Carlos Ponce. Lastly, he is great looking as he is great sounding! ;)

Thank you, Carlos,

Carlos Ponce put it "Talent will only take you halfway, but technique will take you to the top." Carlos' songs sucessfully transmit a strong message of love. The romantic melodies and energetic rhythm, along with Carlos' unbelievably smooth voice - the sophistication of all the works in this album are almost incomparable to his Latin counterparts. Just listening to this album encourages me so much - and truly makes me happy. Carlos, you're the best!

Melt Away with a Heartthrob,

Fans of pure latin pop won;t be disappointed with Carlos Ponce's music, vocals or song selections. This is Latin pop at its best - a sterling collection of tracks that inspire the listener to dance, reflect and just - LISTEN. "Escuchame" is a tremendous song, where the singer begs to be heard. And "Me Muero" is another plea for love. In between, there are soft magical melodies and unadulterated songs of pure joy. A terrific addition to any Spanish (or english) language collection. Just listen and you'll see why.

His best album.,

I think that Carlos is one of the best latin singers and he's tree albums are very good (this is the second one). If you don't know about he's music, it's pop with some tropical ifluences. If you've heard from him and want to buy one of he's cd's I'd recommed this tittle. The biggest hit of this album was the #3 "Escuchame" (listen to me) and has other hits like "Amiga sombra" (Shadow, my friend) and "Todo lo que soy" (all I am). The career of Carlos in music has been very good. He's first album from 1998 won a Billboard award, topped the Latin Charts and had 2 #1 hits ("Rezo" and "Y recurdo"). In 1999 he released "Todo lo que soy" that was once again a hit reached #4 in the Latin Charts and had the hits that I've named. He's latest album "Ponce" which was released in 2002 had only one official single "Mujer con pantalones" (Woman with pants). Carlos has a good voice and he's rhythms are very good. I really recommed this singer.

The Sexiness of Carlos Ponce,
By A Customer

This Cd thrives on the sexiness of his voice and the melodies that follow in his songs. They may range from ballads to pop songs, but, all in all, it as a good CD to share with a special someone!

Escuchame,
By
This review is from: Todo Lo Que Soy (Audio CD)
Even I, as new as I am to the spanish language(I started learning 6 weeks ago) know that Escuchame means "Listen to Me", and from a growing love of the genre, that not all Latin music has to have a pounding beat. Carlos Ponce sings in the best tradition of the balladeer and long may he prosper.

Joel Rose- Escuchame doesn't me "excuse me"...,
By
This review is from: Todo Lo Que Soy (Audio CD)
I know this isn't a forum but I just had to correct Mr. Rose who stated that the song "Escuchame" translates into "excuse me". Just cause they sound similar doesn't mean they are. Actually, the real translation means "Listen to me". Sorry, but it's a pet peeve of mine. Otherwise, I truly like this CD and feel it's a nice alternative to the pop-heavy singers we all know of.

Something for everyone without being overextended,
By Corey Reid (Gaithersburg, MD USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Todo Lo Que Soy (Audio CD)
While it is true that Carlos Ponce does not have the same vocal range as Ricky Martin or Enrique Iglesias, his voice is smoky, honest and free from Martin's heaviness or Iglesias' quivering. It is his deft writing of nearly all the songs on the album that makes the album. Most of the songs are about romance, won or lost. One is a song dedicated to his first child. The instrumentation shows Ponce's varying influences, from the East Indian nuances on "Vuelve a Mí" to the retro-70's flavor of "Sigues Conmigo." or the slightly country-western twang of "Si Te Vas." The true jewel of the album is "Escúchame" (It's the reason I bought the album). The range of styles and the engaging writing combine for a terrific album. It should be the first album purchased by newcomers of true Latin artists.
