5.0 out of 5 stars El espiritu de una epoca.

5.0 out of 5 stars some minutes of original music, December 18, 1999

this is a one of the most original works of andean music, colours and sounds of fusion of folk and rock. This album includes some titles like "todos juntos" recorded on 1976, its really a symbol, or "mira niñita", a ballad with powerful energy. Los jaivas have many albums and if you are looking a new kind of music I recomended that and others like alturas de machu picchu (words of a great poet Pablo Neruda) or "trilogia" to discover the music of this amazing group.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like Metallica, avoid this CD, July 27, 1999

But if you like imaginative and very catchy Andean-influenced folk music, then you'll love this. My traditional tastes run to British folk (Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span) and progressive rock (Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, Van Der Graaf, Le Orme, Banco). This is one of the top 10 new recordings I've heard within the last, oh, 2 decades.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure South American folklore, September 12, 2003
This review is from: Todos Juntos (Audio CD)
It is nice to be able to be the first to review this album. It is a historic record of Los Jaivas. It is some of the most heart felt Chilean folklore music. Also, very importantly on this album you get to see the true talent and craft all band members have and had. Guitarist Eduardo Alquinta and keyboard player Claudio Parra. This album will engulf you from the first track on through the rest of the album. It is the type of record which you can listen through without even thinking twice about turning it off. Brilliant music.

Of special mention are 'Oye ninita', 'Todos Juntos' and 'Indio hermano'.

If you are a newcomer to South american music in the folklore genre, Los Jaivas is one fo the more important groups. Being a native of Chile I invite all to try this album. It s very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very Nice CD to begin listening Los Jaivas, February 15, 2000
This review is from: Todos Juntos (Audio CD)
This was the first important album made by the chilean group Los Jaivas. And it was (and still is)very important. Part rock, part andean folck, it's the beginning of a new style in chilean music. Here you have some peacks like the unforgetable "Todos Juntos", "Corre que te Pillo" and the very sensitive "Mira Niñita". But sometimes the performings are not as good as they can really be. Maybe it was because of the resources they had to record this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not folk music, but folk - rock fusion, February 27, 2005

Los Jaivas didn't develop the typical kind of music from high lands of peruvian, chilean or bolivian Los Andes (to compare, you can listen Inti Illimani, Los Kjarkas, Illapu, etc.). They took a diferent way, mixing the southamerican instruments, rythms and dances (most of them from Chile, of course, and not only from the north of the country)with rock style, arriving to a new, inexplored path. The first productions of this group -like "Todos Juntos"- shows only the begining of this process, and, like a genuine piece of those days (erly 70's), with hippie - psichydelic influence. Lately, they abandoned the improvisation (that can be noted in "Marcha al interior del Espíritu") and explored more the progressive constructions. Products of this evolution are two great albums: "Alturas de Macchu Picchu" (1981), and "Obras de Violeta Parra" (1984) -go for them if you like prog-.
Classic themes in "Todos Juntos" are "Mira Niñita", "Todos Juntos", "Indio Hermano".
A really great album, but not exactly folk music, or the best of the group neither.
