This review is from: Together by Christmas: The Unmasking of Lady Loveless\Christmas Reunion\A Mistletoe Masquerade (Harlequin Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
As a personal tradition, I always snap up and read every Regency/Medieval Christmas story I can get my hands on, and this particular anthology was among them. It did not disappoint! Each tale carried the Christmas mood, including friends, family, and most of all ... Love. Each story was well-written, and I could not have asked for a better way to spend my pre- and post-holiday season with this books among all the other Christmas stories I read this year!

I found the first two stories to be fun...BUT, the last one is simply awesome! I could not wait to sit by the glow of my Christmas tree and get lost in the story! Wonderful!

I hated this book, and wish I hadn't bought it. However, I read it, so I might as well tell you about it. It's a Christmas anthology which has two Regencies and one modern-day story. So already, that's annoying. One of the Regency stories had promise, but stacked up against the other two stupid stories, that isn't much reason to celebrate.
The Unmasking of Lady Loveless by Nicola Cornick Every character in this story was annoying and unappealing. There are plot holes a mile and a half wide, and the resolution of the "mystery" left a foul taste in my mouth. (Stop and think about it when you finish the story -- a man uses erotic blueprints from the novels he thinks his wife wrote to seduce her. Now look at who really wrote them, and see how that feels.) Christmas Reunion by Catherine George Here, we have more appealing characters, but the "reason" they have been apart all these years is contrived and stupid. The story bored me to tears, and the further we got into it, the less I liked the heroine. A Mistletoe Masquerade by Louise Allen This story actually had an interesting plot and reasonable characters (and is the reason I gave this book 2 stars instead of 1). The real problem here is that the story is too short to properly develop the characters or the story. I suspect that had this one been a novel, I would have enjoyed it. It was certainly good enough that I will try reading a novel by this author. |
