5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Jazz Guitar Album, March 19, 2005

I used to own this album on vinyl and played it til the needle wore out! Remler and Coryell work superbly well together always starting where the other leaves off. The soloing is very melodic as well as expertly executed. It's hard to get bored as the tunes are great in themselves and then the solos and accompaniment really expand each track into a mini jem. It's hard to tell who's who as they create one overall sound together. If you love jazz guitar or just jazz in general this is a fantastic jazz album, and definately one of my all time favourites. The bottom line is some jazz albums/artists have the vibe and some miss the mark. This album HAS the vibe something every musician tries to achieve. I highley reccommend this album and if you see a copy, don't pass it..... buy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous album, absurd price, February 18, 2010

This is a one of a kind album - two accomplished players at the top of their game. The musical interplay here ranks among the highest order of magnitude for guitar duos, right up with Pass/Ellis and Bruno/Beck. However the collector prices for the disk currently offered here are just ridiculous attempts to take advantage of the rarity of this disk and the curious absence of mp3's available on Amazon or Itunes. I finally did manage to find this entire album available for legal download from the Rhapsody Mp3 store for $5.99 so unless you've just got to hold that plastic CD in your hand and smell the ink from the original cover art, you can just download it from Rhapsody and enjoy the music.

The song choices here are very interesting and the interpretations lead to solid improvisation from start to finish; but what makes this recording special is Emily Remler. Her smoldering bebop lines and quiet comping are a welcome contrast to Larry Coryell's often frenetic playing and I think she actually brings him down to earth more than once on this disk. There is a lot of Wes influence on both of these players and you will hear it here especially on tunes like Ill wind. The highlight of this recording, however is her very advanced interpretation of Jobim's How Insensitive and it is fair to say that tune alone justifies the entire recording session. Completely original in concept from start to finish, it serves as a reminder of what was lost with her untimely death in 1990.
