Superb Rock-Flavored Blues by the Winter Brothers,
By
This review is from: Together - Live (Audio CD)
This review is for the vinyl LP, so the song selection may be slightly different (modern CD's often add a song or two). However, this is a brilliant, highly enjoyable blues/rock album recorded live with both Johnny and Edgar Winter. The tracks are mostly old blues/rock standards and with the Winters and their talented band at the helm, the tunes sizzle like bacon. If you like blues/rock, you will love this energetic live album.
Five stars.

MILESTONE ROCK AND ROLL RECORDING ON CD!,

This live recording by Johnny and Edgar Winter was recorded on a tour with both Johnny winter's band and the Edgar winter group, after doing their individual sets they would do a set with members of both bands on stage ( same tour as Johnny Winter Captured Live). This is a great recording with both performers at their peak with great musicians backing them like Rick Derringer,Dan Hartman and the late Randy Jo Hobbs on Bass (RIP). It also features the talents of Floyd Radford and Richard Hughes. This recording has both Winter Brothers diving into a treasure chest of their favorite oldies comming up with firey versions of Harlem Shuffle, Soul Man and a rock and roll medley of Slippin' and Slidin', Jailhouse Rock, Tutti Frutti, Sick and Tired, I'm Ready, Reelin' and Rockin',Blue Suede Shoes,Jenny Takes A Ride and last but not least Good Golly Miss Molly. This is a very energetic and exciting performance recorded at The Swing Auditorium, San Diego California by Wally Heider. A good recording not to be missed.....

A rock and roll lesson,

This is qualit rock and roll and if you were to give an example of great live rock and roll to someone who has never never heard rock roll, this is it. The rock and roll medely is an on fire 6 minutes you won't soon forget. The only reason I give it 3 stars is that it clocks in short.
On a reissue you'd hope for some bonus cuts. Especail hear, if you dig live Geils etc this in the same vein, it just ends to soon.

A couple of people have criticized this disc for being short, but when it came out on vinyl, it was 'standard length'. It's amazing how we've become used to 50-60-70 minute discs as the only acceptable length.
I assume this hasn't been lengthened because - there's no other material available! This is an awesome live disc. The bands (Johnny's and Edgar's all playing together) sound great, and Johnny and Edgar are both in fine form, Johnny bringing home the blues and Edgar with his more rock-oriented style. Some great guitar and sax playing by the brothers, as well. The 'Rock and Roll Medley' alone is worth the price of the disc. I used to play this at parties 'back in the day' and it always filled the floor with dancers...today is no exception. I recently played it at a karaoke show as a dance filler and the floor was filled with 20-somethings dancing away, and a LOT of people asking me afterwards 'who were those guys?' and 'where can I get that album?'.

One of Greatest Live Performances,
By
This review is from: Together - Live (Audio CD)
This is one the greatest Live performances of the seventies. The energy
created by Johnny and Edgar is a roller coaster ride you will not forget. Their version of You'll Lose That Lovin' Feelin' is fantastic. (Copied by H & O ???). Don Covay's Mercy, Mercy is one of the best versions ever recorded. Get this CD! You won't regret it. Bob Poles

Johnny & Edgar Brilliant Must Have,

I have to admit to owning this on vinyl back in the day, but it is still a piece of sheer enjoyment all these years later. I wish I had been there that night. The rendition of 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' is the absolute best version I have ever heard. Edgar has a technically better voice, but Johnny's is very distinctive, and the blend is magical. That's what I think, anyway. 2 Brothers sharing their musical skills - what more could you ask?

These guys ( especially Johnny ) have been fans of Blues and Rhythm & Blues since they were kids. The "Harlem Shuffle" long before the "Stones" covered it, and the blueprint for "The Blues Brothers".

To my knowledge, this was the only "official" Winters Brothers together recording ever made. I've only seen Edgar live back in the early-mid 70's
and Johnny came out and played 1 or 2 numbers with the Edgar Winter Group, with Rick Derringer, Dan Hartman & Chuck Ruff if I remember. Ha! Yes, I was a little "buzzed" but not SO buzzed to remember the great harmony and accent these two Brothers have!!!! Don't live without it!! TD in B-Town

The Winter brothers,

It's still as wonderful as I remembered it being. This is another "record" that was played to death before "CD's". I'm glad to have it in my collection again.
