A Good Buy,
By Dr.Lee (Malaysia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Together on One (Audio CD)
This cd contains songs from Bobby Bare's first two LPs on RCA label. This is the time when Bare was first introduced to RCA label by none other than the great guitarist, Chet Akins. In my opinion the songs in his second LP "500 Miles Away from home" are still his very best. It is the LP that converts me into an ardent fan of Bare. I have worned out 3 such LPs and sure glad that it is now available on CD with his first LP "Detroit City" as a bonus. The songs are backed by such excellent musicians such as Chet Atkins himself, Jerry Reed, Floyd Cramer on piano, Charlie McCoy on Harmonica and the wonderful backing of the Anita Kerr Singers. They all branded so well with Bare's laid back voice. The guitar backing was especially nice, pleasing and unique on tracks like "Homestead On The Farm", "Jeanie's Last Kiss", "Noah's Ark" and "I Wonder Where You Are Tonight" and they still remain my very favourites of Bare songs which I can never get tyred of listening to. Some of his older minor hits which appeared in his first LP "Detroit City" such as "Book Of Love" and "Lorena" are really worth having and are also included in this budget CD. Recording quality is quite good and I strongly recommend this CD to you. It's a good buy!
