5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent coming-of-age story
I've always been a big fan of Judy Blume, and she didn't disappoint in "Just As Long...." As always, Blume is a master in getting into the heads of young teens, and though Stephanie is the narrator in this installment (Rachel narrates in Here's To You Rachel Robinson, and Blume has mentioned that she'd like to write a book from Allison's POV), Rachel and Allison are...

I've always been a big fan of Judy Blume, and she didn't disappoint in "Just As Long...." As always, Blume is a master in getting into the heads of young teens, and though Stephanie is the narrator in this installment (Rachel narrates in Here's To You Rachel Robinson, and Blume has mentioned that she'd like to write a book from Allison's POV), Rachel and Allison are equally as compelling.

Overall, this is funny, poignant and realistic look at what happens when a kid enters junior high and begins to question his or her place in the world.

As for the handful of reviewers who complained that parts of this book are "obscene" because the girls discuss kissing and sex. Come on, let's not be stuck in the Pilgrim days here. These girls are 13 - of course they're going to be thinking about boys, getting their periods, etc. Which 13 year old hasn't? Whether the subject matter is appropriate for younger kids to read is up to parents to decide, but Blume doesn't try to pretend this isn't anything other than a middle-grade read. To criticize her for realistically portraying teenagers is absolutely ridiculous. I think the criticism goes more to the parents who didn't bother to check to make sure that their younger kids were reading something on their level.

Anyway, this novel is a (PG-13) gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just As Long Review, January 16, 2002
A Kid's Review
Just As Long As Were Together was a pretty close to real life kind of book. Friends get into fights, right? I found the book a really realistic book. I did because it sounds like most girls' lifes in this world. This book, is about young girls' who are bestfriends, then a girl moves into the condo (I think it was) across a pond from one of the girls. They end up getting into a fight and then become friends once again. They get into so many incidences, and are into this guy that goes to their school. The first sentence "Stephanie is into hunks", kind of caught me off gaurd. Not many books, or authors actually start off a book like that. That's why I thought it would be a pretty interestiong book to read, and boy was I right! Any book that starts off like that can grab your attention and grab you in. I loved this book and I highly recomend it to everyone, that likes Judy Blume or not. It's sophisticated yet, childish, so it's a perfect book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just As Long As We're Together review by me, November 10, 2001
This book is about three friends, Stephanie, Alison, and Rachael. It is from the perspective of 12 year old Stephanie. Stephanie is friendly and optimistic (according to Rachael). Rachael is very senstitive and a straight A student, and Alison is friendly, funny, and senstitive. The three friends get along well together but they do come to some problems.
This book is all about friendship, school, and 7th grade girls. It is a book that once you start, you cannot put down.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book, June 21, 2001
A Kid's Review
This book was incredibly nice! I've never read a book written by Judy Blume but know I know she is a very good writer This book tells about life. I think it is like real life because it talks about three ordinary girls that have some problems. Stephanie and Rachel are best friends until they meet a Vietnamese girl named Alison. These friends have to face some problems that can end their friendship. The book was easy to read. It kept me very interested and I didn't want to stop reading it. I think I can compare these friends with the friends I have. I also have best friends but not only one. I also have many other friends that are really great. The story was very realistic because It talked about changes that happen during the ages of 12 and 13 years old. I hope that who ever reads this review will read this book Just as Long as we're together. How I said before it was a GREAT book.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my faves!, October 17, 2005
This is one of my personal favorite books. It is a great book for anyone 13 and up. I read it for the first time at about 11 or 12 and didn't understand some things. It's not innapropriate, I have always loved how Judy Blume doesn't just write stupid kiddie books, she writes books about real kids and teens with real issues. She doesn't try to teach you that the world is perfect and you have no problems, rather she lets you know you are not alone in the world. I've read this book at least 5 times. Judy Blume is a terrific childrens author, her books are classics. My favorite part is when Jeremy say's "Enjoy the show?" and Stephanie say's "I've seen better". The book, even today, is relatable to teens. Also reccommended are the Fudge books and Here's To You, Rachel Robinson.

5.0 out of 5 stars ahhh...memories..., March 20, 2002
I read this book when I was in the 5th grade. It was my favorite book at the time. As soon as I would finish reading it I would start all over again. By the time I grew out of the book the bind was non-existent from always reading it. This book brings back fond memories, and I highly reccommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Break Up, March 5, 2007
A Kid's Review
Do you like realistic fiction books? Do you like happy endings? If you answered yes to these questions, then you need to read Just As Long As We're Together.

Just As Long As We're Together is about three friends. Rachel and Stephanie were friends since second grade and now they are off to seventh grade. Alison, a new girl in the neighborhood, joins Rachel and Stephanie and they become the threesome. The three of them do everything together, until the big fight between Rachel and Stephanie. Rachel and Stephanie keep secrets from each other and that causes the fight. Rachel plays with Stacey Green, another friend. Alison and Stephanie play together. Will the fight end? Read Just As Long As We're Together to find out what happens to Rachel and Stephanie.

Judy Blume is telling us that friendship should never end.Even if you never see your friend again, you should never lose relationship.

I like how Judy Blume expresses the feelings of the three friends. She uses great detail in this book. I have read a lot of her books, but this one is one of Judy Blume's best novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book, June 22, 2006
A Kid's Review
I loved this book! It talks about real issues girls have and is very well written. If you likes this book, you should definitely read Here's to You, Rachel Robinson, the companion to this book.

This book is not inappropriate, although I wouldn't recommend it to someone younger than 10.

5.0 out of 5 stars creme' la creme', October 21, 2005
A Kid's Review
Just As Long As We're Together by Judy Blume is one of Blume most popular books. She (Blume) once again paints a wonderful picture of girls in every day life.

In this review I will introduce each Girl in this story and their role in the book.

In this book there are a trio of best friends who are in the 7th grade. Stephanie Hirsch is the main character. the book is all from her point of view she is kind of over set and is not very "developed" that what Rachel says. she likes looking at the poster over her bed of a "hunk" that she named Benjamin Moore. In this book her parents split up. This news is very devastating for her. For a long time she doesn't tell her friends, until it comes to the surface the wrong way.

Rachel Robinson has been Stephanie's best friend since they've in 2nd grade. she is very smart and Miss perfect. She is taller than every girl in the 7th grade and acts and looks much older than she is. When Rachel and Stephanie get in a big fight they're not sure if they'll ever make up.

Alison Moncea, she has just moved in from LA. she is adopted Vietnam and used to live in Paris before LA. She tells Rachel and Stephanie that her dog talks to get them to be her friends, But it isn't true. Later the girls find out her mother is a movie star! Alison is very pretty and is the most popular girl in her homeroom. When she and Stephanie get close does Rachel get jealous?

In this entire book shows the value of friendship through thick and thin. read the book to find out the end and see what all happens.
