5.0 out of 5 stars All Around Great Record, May 31, 2010
This review is from: Togetherly (Audio CD)
1995 The year where the original Seattle Sound was being replaced by Post-Grunge, and the style was losing the qualities that made grunge both musically talented and lyrically talented. Kurt Cobain was dead thus leading to the end of Nirvana (the leaders of the movement), Alice in Chains was basically done due to Layne Staley's heroin addiction, Pearl Jam wanted out of the limelight and went off on a series of albums that were more artsy and less mainstream, and Soundgarden had managed a mega-hit in '94. So even though 2 of the members of the Big Four were still afloat grunge was basically collapsing and bands like Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters, and etc. were perpetuating the Post-Grunge sound. Grunge was dominant in the early 90's Post-Grunge took over in the Mid 90's.

So now we come to 1995, the year Nero's Rome put out their debut and only record Togetherly. Now while Post-Grunge was starting to appear more and more in that year Nero's Rome does not fall into that category whatsoever. With a variety of sounds ranging from psychedelic, acoustic, hard rock, and more, this is a perfect album. Songs like "We Play Girlfriends" make you wonder how this band never achieved mainstream success. One of the biggest differences with original Grunge and Post-Grunge is the musical quality of the songs and Nero's Rome shows that they are very talented in how they can perform not just a solo but incorporate different styles and genres into their sound.

This is an incredible record and I highly recommend it. While you at it look up James Angell's Private Player, who was the singer of Nero's Rome, a very talented singer who deserves much more success. Buy the album and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nero's should have been, August 7, 2011
This review is from: Togetherly (Audio CD)
I'll be brief: This is a fantastic album. I wish I could hear the lost Mercury recordings. This is one of my favorite albums EVER and that's saying a ton in my humble opinion. It is to this day in frequent rotation with U2, Zep, Hendrix, Police, etc. Damn shame industry politics kept this band from being realized.
