good but not great, this is here for any "true blue" fan of Allan Sherman,
By Matthew G. Sherwin (last seen screaming at Amazon customer service) - See all my reviews (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Togetherness (Audio CD)
Allan Sherman's last album on the Warner Brothers label was not his best; but it was not bad either and it was his only record for the label that was recorded in a studio without a live audience. Allan is in good form throughout the album although not all of the humorous lyrics made me laugh; but even when I didn't laugh I must concede that they were cute lyrics that did at least bring a smile to my face. In addition the quality of the sound is excellent; and I like that they incorporated the original record album artwork.
"Westchester Hadassah" is a very good takeoff on "Winchester Cathedral;" Allan sounds a bit more nasal than usual but his poking fun at charities that simply won't quit bugging people for money still rings true today. "Strange Things in My Soup" is very well done; and that backup chorus enhances the number quite a bit. "Turn Back the Clock" pokes fun at how grown-ups shouldn't be so fast to think that today's kids are the only generation to say silly things and tease each other in the schoolyard playground; and it's one of my favorite tracks on this CD. "Togetherness" is another well done tune without too many lyrics; and that ukulele with the chorus and the female vocalizing works to great advantage. "Spanish Flea" is another favorite tune of mine from this album; and I think you'll like it, too, if this genre of humor is your cup of tea. And how's about that brass? I love that `60s sound. "My Aunt Minnie" is a great number; and I also like "If I Were a Tishman," a takeoff on "If I Were a Richman" from the musical "Fiddler on the Roof." The album closes with Allan Sherman performing "There's No Governor like Our New Governor" which referred to Ronald Reagan's winning the governorship of California in 1966. Allan Sherman's "Togetherness" is truly a must-have for any diehard fan of Allan Sherman. If you're just discovering Allan Sherman, you may like this album very much or you may want to consider starting with some of his more successful albums including "My Son the Folk Singer;" My Son the Celebrity" or "My Son the Nut."

I ordered the CDs "Togetherness" and "Allan Sherman - Live" (Too bad Allan is no longer "Live"). Both albums are a joy to hear. The vender was excellent. The CD arrived promptly and in excellent condition. I would not hesitate to order other items from this vender.
