5.0 out of 5 stars A Powerful Performance!, May 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Togo Brava Suite (Audio CD)
This album was recorded from a live performance by the Ellington band in 1971, and there are alot of beautiful moments on this record. Some of the set list is part of the actual togo brava suite (as you can see), some are old standbys, and some are just little gems.

Like most of the later Ellington period, the music is dark, heavy, and spiritual. Some of my favorite songs are Addi (feat. Geezil Minerva on alto), Soul Flute (feat. Norris Turney on flute), Togo Brava Suite Part I (feat. Turney on flute again), and Happy Reunion (feat. Paul Gonsalves on tenor).

I listened to this record to explore the little gems more than anything else (I really love the later Ellington period), but by the time i got to it, I had already gone through so much other Ellington. Nevertheless, I think anyone who finds a connection to his music will enjoy this album, and it just might make you a better lover...
