Book Description

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, HP Mallory, comes TOIL AND TROUBLE, the 2nd book in the Jolie Wilkins series!

The Underworld in civil war.
The cause? A witch who can reanimate the dead.
A sexy as sin vampire determined to claim her.
An infuriatingly handsome warlock torn between duty and love.
Who says blonds have more fun?

After defending herself against fairy magic, Jolie Wilkins wakes to find her world turned upside down—the creatures of the Underworld on the precipice of war.

The Underworld is polarized in a battle of witch against witch, creature against creature, led by the villainous Bella, who would be Queen.

While Jolie has one goal in mind, to stake the vampire, Ryder, who nearly killed her, she also must choose between the affections of her warlock employer, Rand, and the mysteriously sexy vampire, Sinjin.

And as if that weren’t enough to ruin a girl’s day, everything Jolie knows will be turned inside out when she’s thrust into the shock of a lifetime.

About the Author

Hi! Thanks so much for checking out my books! I've currently written an urban fantasy about a fairy in law enforcement (To Kill A Warlock) and a paranormal romance about a witch who can bring back the dead (Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble). I'm a mongo fan of anything that goes bump in the night and Halloween is one of my favorite holidays! (Quick tangent--the best costume I've ever worn was last year when I went as the Headless Horseman and my baby was my Jack-O-Lantern head!) I've always loved the Twilight Zone Marathons and if I ever saw a ghost, I think I'd wet myself. I'd categorize my writing as a blend of suspense, humor, light horror, and romance with a sprinkle of fantasy to tie everything together! If you are all about fairies and witches and vampires (oh my!), you love a good alpha warlock and you like men who get a little hairy during a full moon, I got the goods. So, why should you take a chance on my books? Hmm...first off, I can promise my books are unique--you won't have read a story like them before. Second, I tried to make them funny--none of that super serious, dramatic soap opera stuff--okay, there's a bit of that but it isn't lame, I promise! And third, they're sexy and come on, who doesn't like a sexy book? More about me: I grew up in California although I've lived abroad in the UK (England and Scotland--woo hoo, gotta love those kilts!) Happy Reading! HP

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it!!! December 6, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
First of all, I have to tell you that I love H.P's covers. They are so cute and extraordinary that they alone make me want to read the book!

But back to the actual story. It takes up right after the events of the previous book in the series, after Jolie's fight against one of King Odran's faeries and right before the war against Bella and her minions. Having won over the faries King as ally, the preparations for the war begin. All the while Rand's army is assembled in Pelham Manor. Amongst all the preparations, Jolie and Rand have to figure out their feelings for each other and Jolie has to decide how Sinjin, the sexy and smooth talking vamp fits into her life. When the battle finally begins and Jolie finds herself in mortal danger, her life takes a more than unexpected twist...

Toil and Trouble's awesomeness is based on the fantastic characters. Even though it's declared a Paranormal Romance, you can't find one of the usual and dreaded clichés in this book. The relationship between Rand and Jolie with all its ups and downs feels natural and realistic. The issues they have aren't far-fetched just to stall their HEA, at least in my opinion but are due to their characters. And then their is Sinjin. The Vamp is such a great addition to the stroy with his razor sharp whit and his constant flirting. It's no surprise that two alpha male competeing for the affection ht for one lucky woman cause a lot of excitement. And did I mention sexual tension? Toil and Trouble is definitley sexy and has some very hot one on one action between two of the main characters, ( I'm not giving away who they are though!) but, in comparision to other PNR books, these scenes are written tastefully and fit the story very nicely. While I sometimes get the feeling with some PNR books that a story is just an excuse to write one sex scene after the other, here, all sensual scenes feel organic.

Also, while reading Toil and Trouble, you're in for quite a few surprises. One of the major twists I already mentioned above and as much as I want to talk about it, I just don't want to ruin this book for anyone. But if you really do read the book and your a follower of my blog, you might encounter a few things that will surprise you! :)

Overall (I believe you guessed it), I loved Toil and Trouble. H.P. Mallory is one of the best, if not the best Indie authors I had the pleasure of getting to know and reading. she is one to watch, as both her series - and Toil and Trouble is no exception - are funny, original and sexy. I woudn't miss one of H.P. Mallory's books for the world!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my all time favorite series! December 9, 2010
By Raelena
Format:Kindle Edition
As much as I loved the first book in the series, I think that Toil and Trouble managed to be even better! I'm really liking the direction Jolie's relationships with Rand and Sinjin is going. I love that one minute I think she should be with one guy, and the next minute I have changed my mind. It definitely keeps things interesting. Honestly, I am kind of in love with both men myself. Jolie is an amazing character. She is smart, funny, and likes her independence...but for me, the men really make this series. They bring mystery and sex appeal to the story in abundance.

At one point something very major happens (I know that doesn't really tell you much, but I don't want to give it away), and once it does things start to fall into place and let's just say, the plot thickens. There is some pretty good action (of the fighting kind), some very hot situations with each of the men, and lots of magic. In my reader this book is 273 pages. I was so engrossed in reading this book that I finished it quickly. When I reached the end I couldn't believe it. It was left on a cliffhanger and I was so ready to read more. H.P. Mallory has become one of my favorite authors and I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Come hither Sookie fans... February 3, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I had just finished all the Southern Vampire Series novels and was itching for something along the same lines. Lo' and behold, look what I found:

Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble
and
Toil and Trouble

Both books are light and easy to read. Jolie is very much like Sookie in that she's a twenty-something supernatural (with a twist), caught up in a love triangle and a little unsteady on her feet- She's a great character! I really hate to compare books/authors (especially in a review), but I think that it's important for fans of Charlaine Harris to know that there really is life after Sookie. Give it a go and I bet you'll be anticipating the next book in the Jolie Wilkins series as much as I am.
