5.0 out of 5 stars So what if it's predictable? It's hilarious!
Yes, we all know how this is going to end, but don't let that stop you from reading this book! You don't have to be a sports fan at all to read this, but it is hilarious. This is one of the few books I've read where I have actually laughed out loud while reading. Also check out another one of Korman's that is equally funny, with a slightly more interesting, twisted...

2.0 out of 5 stars very bland
a un-interesting mixed up tale of a baseball team who is ineffective at first but, like all predictable stories from a childrens author, finishes first. the ingredient of a wierd talking girl from upper new york barely adds to the comedy, and korman, as they say in baseball, definently strikes out in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 9 year old son LOVED it!, October 14, 2010
This review is from: The Toilet Paper Tigers (Mass Market Paperback)
My 9 year old son is not an avid reader. It's a struggle to get him to read everynight. But once we started reading this book. He would anxiously read at night and then show up with it at the breakfast table. He couldn't wait to read again and again to find out what was going to happen next. I also read it and found it to be very cute and funny with a positive life lesson.

4.0 out of 5 stars Toilet Paper Tigers, December 1, 2001

If you love baseball, or if you love to laugh, this is a great book for you. Gordon Korman's "Toilet Paper Tigers" is a great book. In the book a boy named Corey Johnson experiences what it's like to have a scientist for a coach, the coach's bossy granddaughter for assistant coach, a team full of bad baseball players, and a uniform with toilet paper on it.

As the season goes on, Kristy (the bossy granddaughter) finds a way to make every person a good player and gradually, the Tigers realize that if they try hard enough they can form a good team.

This book teaches a great lesson. The lesson is that it doesn't matter how bad you are at something, if you reach deep inside of yourself, you can find something that makes you a valuable team player.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Misfits of Summer, July 23, 2003

This review is from: The Toilet Paper Tigers (Mass Market Paperback)
This was supposed to be THE YEAR for Corey Johnson's baseball team, starring him as the ace pitcher. But then the coach (a scientist who knows nothing of the game) forgets to show up for the player draft, the team gets uniforms with toilet paper on them (they are sponsored by Feather-Soft Bathroom Tissue Co.), and the coach's obnoxious granddaughter moves in to whip the team into shape (using trick psychology, pure intimidation, and plenty of good ol' blackmail). And so begins what Corey is sure will be the longest summer of his life. However, somewhere along the line, the team turns around, and it's anyone's guess as to how far they can go. With one chapter for each quirky member of the team, "The Toilet Paper Tigers" is sure to make even baseball non-fans laugh. Among the characters: a catcher who is afraid of the ball, an overweight infielder who comes up with some very ingenious ways to find snacks, and a first baseman who is in danger of flunking summer school and being forced to leave the team. Readers will find themselves wondering what outrageous scheme the team will get into next, and cheering (as well as laughing) at the surprise ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gordon Korman does it again, January 23, 2002
Toilet Paper Tigers is a great book, even for those readers who are not children anymore. I picked up this book at a book fair and the silly, witty style and amusing characters have kept me interested in rereading it at least once a year. Korman cleverly divides the chapters by the characters of a run-down baseball team full of misfits (that has a toilet paper as their logo) and the various fears, worries, and shortcomings that they all possess. Each chapter helps the character out his shell, so that by the end of the book, the team works efficiently and wins a few games. The players' overcoming their problems is hampered, however, by the coach's granddaughter, who is a menace to the team. Overall, a very fulfilling and satisfying book.

5.0 out of 5 stars the Tigers kept me up all night, July 4, 2004

This review is from: The Toilet Paper Tigers (Mass Market Paperback)
A few weeks ago, I picked this book up in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep. I ended up not being able to sleep because I was too wrapped up in the story to put it down. I read it cover to cover. In one evening, the Toilet Paper Tigers easily seduced a well-read, intelligent woman. The plot, completely devoid of any romantic interest, is the kind of wholesome stuff I had forgotten about in the many years since I last read a book with a 4-6 grade target audience. Honestly, I loved it.

I read two books from Mr. Gordon Korman: "Nose Pickers From Outer Space" and "Swindle". And I enjoyed both of them, too. And then I finished my third one: "The Toilet Paper Tigers", and it was TERRIFIC! The boy narrator (Corey) "Johnson" playing left field, and the girl coach, Kristy ("Tsup?") Pendergast, were GREAT! (A motorcycle named "Shlomo"??? --- CUTE!) I could picture (i.e. "The Picture") them when they are older and become Mrs. and Mr. Johnson, or Kristy Pendergast and Corey Johnson, or what ever the heck it's called these days. CLASSIC!!!

OK, now I'm hooked! Keep'm coming, Mr. Korman!

Ira

5.0 out of 5 stars A Favorite Of Mine, February 8, 2009
This review is from: The Toilet Paper Tigers (Mass Market Paperback)
I really liked this book when I was a kid. It had a solid plot and really good character development...usually uncommon during that time when RL Stine was cranking out Goosebumps books with transparent characters, simple and lame plots, repetitive dialogue. No, this book is definitely different from most kids books.

Ya know, I always wondered why this book was never made into a tv movie or a disney summer movie. This story and characters had alot of potential to be made into a really entertaining and enjoyable movie. I hope to someday see this book made into a movie.
