Book Description

March 15, 1998
Toilet is a bracing and explicit look into the life of its narrator, a young gay man at the crossroads of a life that has veered dangerously close to the edge. As he struggles to define himself and his future, we are witness to the blistering and numbing extremes of his rich and unfiltered emotional experience.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Toilet smacks of brilliance. His sinuous, newsy, mega-refined yet weirdly aggressive voice gave me an incredible rush." -- Dennis Cooper

"Both cheery and cantankerous, the stories and rantings of Toilet are linked by a battery-acid tone and a smart, atomic energy. Tom Woolley is a wholly engaging original, and injects his humor with equal parts horror and sad, eerie nostalgia." -- Scott Heim

From the Publisher

To say that this book has already attracted substantial interest would be an understatement. Weve had overwhelmingly positive responses, including comments from Dennis Cooper, the late Kathy Acker (we were honored and moved that she took the time to respond shortly before her passing), Scott Heim, and Michael Musto. Copies of the first edition are selling out much faster than anticipated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not so gay, I didnt get it., May 17, 1998

OK - so it is billed as a queer collection, but I was given it by a friend who didnt know better. Despite this, I found the themes universal and the conversational tone the author takes with the reader inclusive of all orientations. I think it crosses the sex lines. This is not about a gay guy it is a book about a human. I give it two thumbs up. Super smart and funny. Oh, ps - don't let the pre-teen set get a hold of this - Language baby, language.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toilet rocked my world, April 29, 1998

smart funny and vicious, the diatribes of this author had me doubled over with laughter and then throwing up with disgust. A real ride with a lot of surprises. Thought the fourth story, "Letters to Anji" read like an exerpt, but stood alone well enough. Like Dennis Cooper a generation later.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Revolutionary Work of Fiction, July 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Toilet (Paperback)
This book was so amazing, I read it three times in one day. Woolley's perspectives on life, love, friendship, dating, & happiness are insightful, touching, & original. The chapter entitled "You Sure Are Pretty For a Faggot" is perhaps the most honest account of human dating that I'd ever encountered. I doubt I will come across a book that speaks so truthfully (and so eloquently as well) for a long, long time to come.
