This is another game I purchased based on it receiving such positive reviews on Amazon. I was disappointed with it, and would like to share my experience with others.
I overall think the game is decent. But I wish they would have worked out the changing camera position and the controls a little better. This should be an awesome game, but instead it's just kind of frustrating due to, in my opinion, poor design. Some parts are more difficult than they should be simply because it's just too tough to fight enemies from all directions when you can't keep track of what direction your character is facing or keep the character under control easily. The upside is that the puzzles are cool, the characters are cool, and the concept is really creative and fun. I just found gameplay to be too cumbersome to really enjoy. I ended up putting it down so I could play GTAIII and Lumines and other titles more and more. After getting tired of this one, I sold it on ebay. Sorry Tokobot, I really wanted to like you, I just couldn't. :(

It's a pity that my patience for the PSP ran out before Tokobots came out. Having sold the handheld for its lack of interesting games some months ago, I came across this neat little puzzle platformer from my friend, and before long, I was bribing him with food just to borrow his PSP and the game for an "extended period of time".
Tokobots it's one of the very few games that we see on the PSP that we won't get to find on the PS2, and this makes the game a little more unique than the bunch of port-overs that litter the PSP's game library. But being original is not the only strength of the game. It's the interesting (though under-developed) story, engaging gameplay and variety of challenge in the game that make it one of the most enjoyable titles on the PSP for me for quite a while. The story goes that Bolt, an archeologist, discovers the ruins of an ancient civilisation that is inhabited by Tokobots. These cute little robots grow attached with Bolt, and there begins a journey that sees Bolt and the Tokobots travel around the world while taking on a group of bad guys through the use of "formations". The idea of formations is not as rigid as it sounds, even though there're really only three primary ones to start with. "Jointing", for example, gets the Tokobots to join hands together with Bolt. "U formation", for example, gets the Tokobots to line-up in a horizontal line on both sides of Bolt. "V formation" lines the Tokobots behind Bolt. While these may sound simple, many actions can come out from each one of them. What's more, the game also allows the player to perform combos on these formations, which in turn lead to some devastating moves that either help solve environmental puzzles, or simply give the enemies a hard time. Finding the right formation in various situations will therefore be the challenge for the player. Also, the Tokobots will also unlock new formations, and take on new forms as the game progresses, which make the game feel less repetitive. The presentation of the game is also quite a gem. The graphics, for example, do very well in recreating an "archeological" feel to the game. There's some slowdown in frame rate at some areas, and at times the camera angle makes things really difficult, but these are common issues for PSP games that I gather is more due to the limitation of the handheld than the game itself. The audios also blend in nicely with the overall presentation of the game, although I find it rather monotonous after a while. It could help with some form of voice-over as well. In conclusion, Tokobots is a refreshing addition to the PSP family that should appeal to fans of the puzzle platformer genre. The strength of its gameplay alone makes an easy-to-recommend title.

Well it is about time. We finally have a good original title on the PSP. THis one is in the form of a platformer. For those confused, a platformer is like just about any mario game (super mario, mario 64 ect) You basically have an action game that requires you to kill things (in a fun way) and jump from this platform to the next avoiding obstacles and enemies along the way. These are some of the most creative games in the history of video games. In my opinion they are also some of the most fun. Fun creative action games, what more could you ask for. Tokobot is great! It is one of those rare platformers that actually uses some of the old standards and puts a new twist on them. This time you get the bad guys and jump from platform to platform, but you do it with five robots you found on a archeological dig. The robots have three major functions that help you on your journey. I will not spoil the fun of discovery, but trust me, it is fun. the controls are great, the game is light and fun. Most of all it is creative. Bottom line: Get this game for it's fun creative innovation.
