3.0 out of 5 stars Highly affable jazz-rock-pop, October 31, 2000

This review is from: Tokyo Joe (Audio CD)
Largely instrumental, this ~1980 album highlights the dual virtuosic wizardry of the fusion guitarist Kazumi Watanabe and the keyboardist/composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Energetic guitar/keyboard workouts are the norm for most of the record, but Sakamoto's then-wife Akiko Yano--an artist whose solo output as a singer-songwriter bests the combined work of both Sakamoto and Watanabe--graces a couple of the tracks with her singing, most notably the funky, disco-inflected "I'll Be There." (She also contributes Fender Rhodes parts to much of the album.)

"Alaska Moon" is gorgeous. The album overall is inessential but good, wholesome fun and highly recommended to fans of any of those mentioned above, and well worth the bargain price.
