Editorial Reviews

Review

“It’s a 500-page explosion of creativity that serves as a reminder of how Japan is often on the cutting edge of art and design innovations.” ~Planet Magazine

"Both the city's appearance and its visual output are impossible to summarize, except that they always grab the eye. Tokyolife: Art and Design attempts to get a handle on the amorphous style of the megalopolis by looking at the actual players behind it." ~Coolhunting.com

"Tokyolife anoits the true design talents of the city and explores their global influence." ~Departures

From the Inside Flap

Tokyo and its avant-garde occupy a disproportionate role in the creation of global culture. Represented in this book is the work of over eighty creatives-- painters, architects, interior designers, industrial designers, fashion designers, filmmakers and photographers, many highly influential, and some as yet unknown in the West. Announcing a generational transition, the divergent personalities profiled in the book have collectively engineered entirely new ways of seeing, expanding their influence well beyond Japan and into the arts of Asia, Western Europe, and North America. 11.25" 6.00" 8.75" 1.5" (38mm) 8.75" 6.00" 0.25" 0.25" CyanMagentaYellowBlackPantone877 Tokyolife is organized around the physical city, and the role of the megalopolis itself as both the site and inspiration for an unprecedented explosion in design and the visual arts. The new work of world-renowned talents Kawakubo Rei, Murakami Takashi, SANAA, Nigo, Homma Takashi, Takahashi Jun, Koreeda Hirokazu, Fukasawa Naoto and Tsumori Chisato complement the current work of rising stars like Ninagawa Mika, Takano Aya, Katayama Masamichi, Mihara Yasuhiro, Yokomizo Makoto, Atelier Bow-Wow, Yoshioka Tokujin, Kawauchi Rinko, Utsugi Eri, Dresscamp, and a host of others.

This review is from: Tokyolife: Art and Design (Hardcover)
After visiting Tokyo city for three weeks, nothing can take you back to the smells, colour, people and hustle of tokyo...well at least I thought so.

Tokyo is a city that is vibrant and no words can't truly describe what it is. Not many people will really get to experience all things Tokyo has to offer, this book takes you behind the scenes of fashion designer Jun Takahashi of Undercover to the music, food, design, and culture of Japans largest city.

Tokyo Life will immerse you in all things Tokyo and either take you back or take you there.
