The rain gauge vial / tube is designed with a flat bottom, providing more accurate rainfall measurements. This rain gauge features a study black metal stake in a classic fluted design and a green glass garden globe within the base of the stake. Packaged in a gift box this rain gauge would make a great gift to that special gardener in your life! The metal stake twists apart making it easy to store during the winter. The glass rain gauge vial (udometer) makes this stake a wonderful decorative garden item, however be sure to bring the glass vial indoors when temperatures drop below freezing, when water turns to ice it expands causing the vial to break. This rain gauge is easy to read from a distance, easy to place securely on the lawn, and looks good, too. We're getting ready for our first rains in Southern California, so I can be warm and dry and see how much rain we've received without going outside. We're all big babies in California.

Wish I'd seen the other reviews before I purchased it. Worked great for a few months -- went out to check it the other day only to find the bottom broken out. Nothing nearby to explain the damage. Of course the return window has expired.
