This is an excellent quality tool, I use it commercially and it will handle up to grade 60 bar. It is heavy duty and will stand up to constant use, also the jaws are reversible and extremely good quality hardened metal. The Tolman name is long standing as an excellent brand. I left my last one at a very distant job-site and I will be getting another soon, highly recommended over any other manual cutter/bender available.

My experience thus far has been very good. The tool cuts and bends 1/2" gr. 60 rebar with ease, even in wet and muddy conditions. I look forward to trying the tool on 5/8" gr. 60 in the next few weeks.

I was kind of undecided looking at this cutter-bender because of one review that said it was nearly impossible to cut #5 rebar. I decided to buy it anyways because of the very low price compared to most cutter-benders, and the idea that it is made in the U.S.A, which is very important to me. I am doing an ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) foundation for a basement with #4 and #5 rebar, and the day I got it, I cut #5, it takes a little strength, but once it gets to a certain point, it just pops back, and makes a very clean cut, and a crisp bend. It cuts #4 with ease! A very good cutter-bender, especially for the price. I would definitely recommend, and would buy again.

I am building an ICF (insulated concrete form) house that calls for #4 and #5 rebar to be cut to size and bent around corners. The description claims that this tool can cut and bend both sizes. IT WORKS GREAT FOR CUTTING #4 REBAR!!!! However the #5 rebar was nearly impossible to cut. I actually hooked my winch up to the handle to create enough leverage to cut the #5 bar. It bends both sizes with ease. This is a good tool... although not quite as described.

i purchased this tool primarily for the bender. after reading some of the reviews i was expecting the cutter would not cut "5 re-bar which it did not. for this reason i am giving it 3 stars other wise i am satisfied with the product. if you haven't tried to bend re-bar before and are looking to save money by buying a cheap pipe bender you may want to re consider this product(especially if it's 5/8" or greater)

I bought this one after debating open vs closed hubs. This one is really well built and has one of the longest handles I could find. The wood base is cheap and I split mine after cutting #5 rebar. I found it easier to just overlap extra rather than cut multiple lengths of #5. I really recommend this tool as the best value and it was great for bending/cutting #4 and cutting #5. It will cut #5 but it depends on how much strength you have. If I had to cut a lot of #5 I would probably go get a hydraulic tool.

Cuts and bends 4 with ease.
Bends 5 easily, cuts but you need some extra umph.
Bends 6. I'm not strong enough to cut 6 with it.

A very study tool. A must-have if you're doing basements.

Got to love it when you can actually buy American!

Cuts through #4 bar like butter. #5 - 60 grade does take some effort but very doable if the operator weighs more than 150 lbs. and eats a good breakfast. Only down side of this cutter vs. an open jaw is if you want to cut bar after you have made multiple bends (e.g. made a mistake); can't fish a bent bar through the cutter head. Cuts with greater ease and holds up longer than the open jaw cutters I have used in the past.

Works well for cutting and bending rebar. Used to cut and bend #4, grade 60 rebar for retaining wall footings. Well worth the money. Good quality for the price.

My only complaint is that you have to leave the bolts somewhat loose for the unit to rotate properly. If the bolts are tightened the unit will bind. Perhaps over time it will "break in" and the bolts can be tightened completely.
