You control a six-man squad, divided into two teams, and you have the opportunity to handpick your squad members (and their equipment) after each mission briefing. You can switch your point of view to any of the six active soldiers--the soldier you control automatically becomes the leader of his team, while the other team operates according to orders you give via a map interface. Thus, you can move one team into a covering position, leave them with orders to provide cover fire, then lead the other team in to reach your objective. Or, break up your squad and try to achieve two objectives simultaneously.
The level of detail and realism is incredible, right down to the way the soldiers communicate in hushed tones and with gestures. The complexity of the game requires an elaborate controller setup that takes a while to get used to (luckily there are plenty of training missions designed to help you learn the multitude of movement, weapons, and command functions). Once you get the hang of it, you'll find it's worth the time spent in boot camp. --Maile Bohlmann

An Excellent Video Game: Better than PC Predecessor,

I have just completed the game Ghost Recon for the PS2. This game was an excellent game on PC and I wanted to see if the Conversion to Console did the game justice. It Delivers the program in style and then some. full of special features as if it were a DVD video the game also features the Desert Siege Mission Pack, a multiplayer mode, and tons of extra levels etc.In fact, the only complaint that I have is that the Character animations tend to get a tad static when in a heavy firefight. the game also features a streamlined control system, very much improved sound, and for the first time I have seen in a Tom Clancy game, High Quality FMV sequences that replace the PC's Decent but not great movies sequences. Ghost Recon,

Just a Great game:great graphics, sound, music, realism, and fun. Definately a game to buy this Christmas for the PS2. For a comparison, I believe it is better than Medal of Honor: Frontline, which was an amazing game. Ghost Recon has sharp, smooth graphics, powerful music, and excellent story line and replay value. (Plus the co-op multiplayer is a blast.) The AI is one of the best I've seen. My only complaint would be the lack of network adapter compatability. But, on the whole, this great is one of the best I've played and is as close to a realistic war game as it gets. I give it a perfect score. Ratings:

I could go on and on telling you about this game but instead I'll cut to the chase, breaking this game down into little pieces.
Concept - Lead five fellow Ghosts into battle using stealth and all out firepower, depending on the situation. The story is set in the near future where you will retreive documents, rescue prisoners, take hostages, and the like. The overall goal is to accomplish these tasks swiftly, silently, and invisibly, hence the name Ghost Recon. Controls - The controls are tight and work very well, I disagree with the people saying the controls take a long time to get use to. They are great and the PS2 version makes a target zoom avilable. Never at one point did I get frustrated or confused by the controls. Graphic - Too many people complain about this part of the game. I actually think the graphics are really good. Do take in mind that this game originated on the PC so the graphics transition to the PS2 was actually done very nicely. The graphics don't focus on "fancy" they focus on "realism" which I think many will agree is the better to strive for. I know they are not the best but the gameplay is so good that I never cared. Sound - Ok this part is cool. All the guns sound different, as they should, but so do bullets at different distances. A bullet wizzing by your head sounds like, well, a bullet wizzing by your head and guns blazing in the distance sound cool and give you the feeling your being shot at. Now, maybe it sounds like I'm getting excited over nothing but trust me, if you crank this game through a good sound system, it'll rock. Gameplay - The gameplay is very diverse. No two levels look alike or play alike making no levels a waste of time or give you the feeling that you've played it before. I really wanted to see this game through and couldn't put it down for the longest time. Everything is so unpredictable and original. Replayability - Man this game is replayable espiecially due to the mini challenges, various multiplayer modes (including co-op) and second campaign you unlock after beating the first which is 15 missions long and can be played on three different difficulties, that change the amount of enemies and their skills. I love this game and any "true" war gamer should as well. 10/10
