5.0 out of 5 stars A Great First Person Shooter For Your PSP

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great First Person Shooter For Your PSP, June 30, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas (Video Game)
Rainbow Six Las Vegas for the PSP is a great game but still very different from the consol version. True, first person shooters are usually pretty different on handheld systems anyway, but Rainbow Six Las Vegas on the PSP does a nice job of recreating the excitement that one would get by playing the consol version.

The game-play, sound effects and music are really well done. The graphics are okay, but I only say this because I'm use to playing Las Vegas on my Xbox 360 in High Definition. Obviously no comparison, but needless to say, the graphics are adequate.

Story Mode is very well done. You switch between two characters throughout the game which is pretty cool. This gives you the feeling as if you're playing with someone else, but really it's just you switching between two different characters. Story mode has a lot of the great features that I though for sure wouldn't make it to the PSP. For example, the snake cam is still there. Night vision as well, however thermal isn't. You still have frags and flash bangs but that's it. There is no tear gas, C4, breaching charges or other cool devices to use. Just your primary weapon, handgun, frag and flash. This goes for multi-player as well.

Multi-Player is a lot of fun, and this is (in my opinion) the reason to go out and buy this game. There's AD Hoc and Infrastructure which allows you to play with others around you or online. Game modes include survival and team survival, (Max four players). There are also six levels to choose from and all of them are a lot of fun to play.

A few people have commented on Freelook. This is the ability to lock yourself onto a wall or crate, so that you can see what's on the other side. The consol versions have this as well. The reason that Freelook is a pain on the PSP is due to the fact that you have to run into whatever it is that you want to "lock to". This gets really annoying because sometimes you just accidently bump into things, which throws you into the Freelook view more often than you want.

Overall, this is a great game and I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Sin City FPS...or is it??, August 8, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas (Video Game)
The success of the Rainbow Six Vegas series on the PS3, X-Box 360, and PC has inevitably been transfered to the hand-held PSP. And overall, I'd say the transformation was a success. Playing as a two member team of the elite Rainbow Six Unit you are called to a stop a terrorist threat in the surrounding Vegas area. The weapons, graphics, voice-over work, and A.I. are all up to snuff; though the A.I in some places can be downright laughable as guards ignore gunshots in their direction and partners that are killed right next to them.
The game is also quite short, luckily there is some replay value with a Terro Hunt mode that allows you to hunt for baddies through already completed areas. And there are a variety of locals including an airport, penthouse, ranch, and the Hover Dam. Which brings me to what I feel is the games biggest weakness: The NAME: VEGAS. If not for a few glimpses of a mock version of the Stratosphere Hotel, and a brief view of the Strip you'd never know that this game was taking place anywhere near Vegas. Consequently there are no missions in any casinos, on the Strip, behind any famous hotels, or even a gentleman's club. For that you'll have to get one of the console versions.
Still, Rainbow Six Vegas is a legitimate, fun, and enjoyable FPS for Sony's underrated PSP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great play, great tactics, amazing shooter!, July 4, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas (Video Game)
This game isn't your run of the mill shoot and run game. You have to really think tactical. Think cover, think concealment, think ahead of the enemy. The Vegas series is my favorite Rainbow six so far. If you like a challenge and love realism, this series is the right one for you.

i picked this game up at a EB 2 days ago and beat it after 3 hours and 4 deaths (normal mode). Now this aside i had a blast playing this game. The core game play was solid due to the fact its runs the Unreal Engine. Game play Graphics were a solid meh. nothing great in the model area but lighting on the models was very good and the night vision while useless indoors if you are in a car or out by the sun makes it very visible. also the movie sequences are BEAutiful and the voice overs are always present from briefing to the middle of the action .now in a review above me they say that there are no cool extra weapons. this is fully untrue at the beginning of every mission (not sub mission.)there is a gear room option where you can pick out your favorites from 20 weapons for both characters (including breaching charge and c4.). And all the weapons function differently so that depending on the mission a switch is a good idea. Now this game has infrastructure play but don't depend on it the maps are giant, normally this would be good but with a max of 4 players i spent most of the time franticly running around lost than shooting. but the client system was nice showing me all the matches with the number of players map and game type on the side of the screen. also you can check and see how you rank overall against all the other players. this game has a friends list to see who you know is online but there is no way to communicate so making friends is rather pointless other than to check if the best are online, if you are for some reason looking for a friend my handle is BINOPANDA. Now back to shortness yes this game is to darn short but the multiple game play modes; story, mission(pick and play portions of the story out of order.)Terro hunt (yes terro any way its just run through the maps KETM.). The last thing i have to say about this is that there are 3 difficulty modes, normal (lots of health and dumb enimies.),Hard (smart enimies and lots of health.), and Elite (smart enemies low health.)

P.S. the game has "rewards" you can earn but they are no more than 15 hand drawn pictures of the levels (seem to have been drawn after and thrown in after for this purpose. rent it beat it if you like it buy it (im going to trade it in, in a while towards Metal Gear Portable Ops) so if you want a good shooter for the psp starwars battle front takes the cake it can even be played in 3rd and 1st point of view.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh, didn't quite do it for me, May 30, 2010

= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas (Video Game)
I will be honest, this is the only version of Vegas I have played, I played Vegas 2 first so maybe my expectations are skewed. The controls are just not quite there, you can't change the sensitivity so aiming can be a pain, though you can cop out and use the Lock-On feature. I hate the Lock-On feature though, it removes a lot of the Shooter genre feeling. The graphics are not bad, a little more model detail for at least your characters would have been appreciated. The weapon selection is pretty good, its what I expected in a handheld edition and it still caters enough to me that customizable feeling I like about Rainbow Six. I am surprised to be complaining about this but levels weren't actually linear enough for me. It is kind of easy to get lost in a few and sometimes you end up doing a bit of tedious killing, it might just be me though, I would have liked more one directionality. All of the little things kind of just add up and really made this game a D+ for me, I wish there were a Vegas 2 for the PSP as they could really use some redemption here.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre FPS, January 18, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas (Video Game)
This game is realistic in ways other FPS aren't. What's good about the game is once you figure out the controls some movements (peek kills) are very effective. It also isn't overly gory which is good for parents who don't want their kids exposed to excessive blood. As for the negatives. First is lack of ammo. In one level I actually ran out of ammo for all my weapons. Who ever heard of a game that has a limited supply of ammo? Another pet peeve of this game is the frustrating way the main character turns to face an enemy behind him when he is close to the wall. Instead of facing the attacker he puts his back against the wall. All in all this is an OK game. This game is worth a play but only if you plan on renting it.

Who could forget Logan and his team on the console version game of the same name? Solid controls, great graphics, and team work all lead you to victory of the so called terrorists. On the PSP? Not so much.
There's really no team work here. You're pretty much a one man army against a legion of terrorists. Sure, there's two man that you play as, as the game progesses from area to area. But, you only play one at a time and neither are in the same room taking down the same baddies as the one that you're controlling. Control? Don't get me started on that. Unfortunately, due to this being a PSP game, FPS's tend to suffer in terms of that. Move forward, back, and strafe using the directional thumb pad and aim using the face buttons. Wait..aim using the face buttons?! Give me a break, atleast the game give you the option to change the layout of the buttons and that, I very much welcomed. Although, moving from place to place is relatively solid, putting your character on a wall to look around the corner can be a bit tiresome. It's easy! Walk up to it, that's it. But, when you're running around trying to get somewhere, you'll sometimes stick to the wall on accident and it just becomes frustrating. Oh, and the free aiming? Not really there. Sure, you can look around and shoot, but, will you hit enemies more often than not? No, I highly doubt it. Sniping suffers the most from this. I've had numerous problems sniping and getting head shots. I'd say the saving grace of this game are the graphics and the guns. For a handheld, the graphics of the game are pretty top notch. Waterfalls and even a mansion have nice detail. I was happy to see that the FAMAS made it into the game as well as the L85A2. You'll find all these guns in the game's console brethren so you should be pretty familiar with them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rainbow Six Vegas, without Vegas..., August 5, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas (Video Game)
This game was fun to play, but the title of the game is midleading a bit. This really should be its own rainbow game considering none of it is in vegas!!!. Well it might be, but there were no casino firefights or anything like that, so you would never know this was set in Las Vegas. Other then that, and the serious issue of when you kill someone the game freezes for a second, it was fan and the multiplayer is good for the PSP.

The game is pretty cool considering it has to be played on a psp console. The graphix is nice, the storyline is good, and the overall playability is above average for me.
