Awful. An insult to true Tom & Jerry fans...,

This review is from: Tom and Jerry - The Movie (DVD)
In the later period of the Tom & Jerry shows, a Europeananimation company (Dutch, I think) made some of the worst ever attempts at Tom & Jerry ever seen. They had none of the atmosphere or spirit of the classics. They were badly drawn, had terrible sound effects and little of the memorable big-band orchestra music which Tom & Jerry was well-known for... Why do I mention this? Well, I'll tell you... It's because even those awful, late Tom & Jerry episodes were a whole lot better than this absolutely terrible movie. "Tom & Jerry - The Movie" is an insult to the fans and almost Stick to the originals!!!

"You want to see this AGAIN?",

My 2 boys (4 & 6) will watch this movie over & over if I let them. I'm not sure why people think it's bad. Yes, Tom & Jerry talk in this movie, but my kids don't care, they just love the story & the songs (and there are some catchy kids songs). They do the usual fighting, but it gives a good message to kids at the end. I give it 5 stars, and recommend this to any child!

Seems like this film was produced with good intentions, but the result isn't very entertaining. Tom and Jerry lose their home, and after a few minutes of Tom chasing Jerry through the city, each realize the other can talk, and become friends. Then they start singing mediocre songs. The new "Friends 'til the End" team up to help a runaway girl reunite with her father and defend her against a mean aunt. What kept me from completely regretting paying the DVD rental price was the inclusion of two classic cartoon shorts, "Just Ducky" and "The Invisible Mouse."

My son is 2 years old and used to watch the Veggie Tales movies all the time untill he was introduced to Tom and Jerry. Now this is the ONLY movie that he will watch. I beleive that this movie shows that even though you are differant you can still bve friends and that is the lesson that I want to instil into my child. I feel that this movie is a nice change for this generation where children see too much violence. My son would watch this movie non stop all day if I allowed him too. I have bought other classic Tom and Jerry movies for my son and the other ones don't compare to his favorite the Tom and Jerry movie. I would like to see another movie come out then maybe I can get two movies into rotation!!!!!!

I expected this to be a movie with lots of chases (it has 1)Tom & Jerry make friends during the movie and can all of a sudden talk. This is not at all like Tom & Jerry. I did not expect this to be like this. It was a major dissapointment for me. If I were you I would skip this one.

Not That Bad - Cut It Some Slack.,

This movie is really not all that bad....People really need to look upon the T&J Movie and the original classic cartoons as two different things....
I have all of the classic T&J's on Laserdisc (The versions that have not been re-edited for polical correctness reasons!). My 4 year old daughter and I watch them all of the time. Alot of people do not realise that the originals use to be played in movie theaters before a feature film and were made for adults. The originals were not geared towards kids.. But the Tom & Jerry Movie is.....And there is nothing wrong with that ! After viewing the movie with my daughter, I found myself appreciating the movie for what it is. A KIDS FLICK! Critics of the movie also have to realise that it is a MOVIE and not a short 6 or 7 minute cartoon. So you need a story. And a story geared for kids. You cannot fill an entire movie with a bunch of chases that end with a pie in the face. That pond has been fished empty with the Tom & Jerry characters...... As far as the movie itself, I thought that the animation was great, the music was great and the story was cute. Plus, on occasion there were glimpses of the classic T&J antics incorperated into the film. I actually liked how they worked into the movie Tom and Jerry speaking for the first time. They both spoke at the same time and both of them looked at each other and said "I didn't know you could talk". I thought that was rather funny.... There was also a scene in which Jerry frees a bunch of caged animals and Droopy slides out of one of the cages and says "Hello all you happy people". I thought that was a great touch for all of us older folks who watched both T&J and Droopy..... The movie ended in true T&J fashion with Tom trying to get Jerry in a mouse trap but Jerry (as always) gets the last laugh when Toms tail winds up in the trap... In closing, this is a cute movie for a new generation of kids. I highly recommend this movie for parents and their kids who want to watch something on a nice family Saturday evening. But for you college kids out there who like drinking a beer and watching the classic skits.....For get it....Try the Simpsons instead and remember that the Tom & Jerry Movie is a kids flick...And a darned good one....

Not the typical Tom & Jerry.,

I've read some of the reviews about this movie and although, from an adult point of view I agree with them, I have to give this movie a 4 star due to the fact that I view movies like this through my children's eyes.
My children love Tom & Jerry and this movie, however different, was a movie they love as well as the cartoons on TV. The first thing I heard upon watching was: "They talk!" That did it for them. They LOVE the movie and watch it again and again. If a movie does that, then it's a great one. And it also has a heart felt meaning in the end. Remember when you watch this movie to view it from a child's perspective and suddenly you'll love it too!

This movie has a totally different feel then the original Tom & Jerry cartoon. My son would still rather sit at the computer and watch the old ones. This movie is great for the long trips in the truck and of course Tom & Jerry are the heros! Not as good as some of our other movies but still entertaining for kids.

VERY WEAK,

I can't believe that this got a theatrical release. The standard of animation is worse than direct-to-video and the ramshackle story is among the weakest and cliched in this sub-sub-genre. How Phil Roman (Garfield, Simpsons) managed to unleash this on cinemas is crazy. It's watered-down and safe PC rubbish for the generation that regard the original Tom and Jerry as too violent. Puh-lease!All Tom and Jerry shorts from the 1950's were made in "Cinemascope" widescreen but this wasn't. Did the makers learn anything from the past. Clearly not as the short cartoon quality is far superior to this 90's effort. The plot concerns the Cat and Mouse duo, who have been made homeless, helping a lost orphan escape from her evil aunt. These are all major cliches in kiddies cartoons. But guess what? Tom and Jerry become friends, so there is no combat or action. It's just all infantile slush. If you really want to buy a cartoon movie for your kids or want to advise them on what to watch then direct them towards the new Scooby Doo animated movies and forget that this rubbish exists. After all, the people who made it forgot what Tom and Jerry originally were.

Too much song & dance in this...I like the original cartoons so much better... This involves tons of other "characters" that aren't even interesting...Sorry to waste money on it... Stick with "Whiskers Away" if you like the REAL Tom & Jerry cartoons
