This review is from: Tom and Jerry: War of the Whiskers (Video Game)
A well designed and entertaining game for the whole family, with a great sense of slapstick.

This is a good alternative to VirtuaFighter, Tekken, and Dead or Alive, for the younger set as well as adults looking for something different. Playing very similar to the Dreamcast hit-series PowerStone, its simplified controls and interactive environments keep everyone entertained. It makes a great game for non-gamers, and those looking for something a little lighter.

The PS2 graphics are amazing, and reminds me of the 5 star "Looney Tunes: Sheep Raider" for the PS1 in terms of its quality and visual sense of humor. Floods, avalanches, and other wacky events constantly interrupt the fight, forcing gamers to stay on their toes. And, there are plenty of unlockable characters to bring you back for more.

As a dad who plays his fair share of "M" rated games after his kids go to bed, it is nice to see some quality efforts made for the younger crowd. I am a little surprised it is rated "Teen" - they should have appealed the rating to get an "E".

The only criticisms I have are with the high difficulty level, and the fact that it should have been designed for 4 players. Otherwise it is a great buy, especially if you find it in the discount bin.

Pros:

Interactive and fun battle environments

Weapons and Damage
The weapons are straight out of the series and the damage they inflict can sometimes be very humorous

Cons:

Menu System
One of the worst menu systems I have ever seen. There is very little help, very little interactivity, its as though it were just an afterthought
Attacks
There are very few attacks and nothing special to them. You can pick things up, punch things, and kick things, but that is it
AI
The AI opponents run around trying to pick things up...it seems like that is all they really want to do and yet it can still be difficult because when you hit them down you can't keep hitting them...temporary invulnerability
Arena Space
The arenas are much too cramped for the speed at which the characters are able to move...it doesnt allow for much in the way of strategy

Suggestions: Buy it used or rent it...not worth more than $15

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, June 22, 2005
A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tom and Jerry: War of the Whiskers (Video Game)
This is a fun game for children about 5 to maybe 13 or 14 and I don't see really any reason that it should be rated Teen.

You can only be Tom and Jerry at the beginning, but you can unlock Tyke, Spike, Butch, Nibbles, Duckling, Eagle, Lion, Robot Cat, and Monster Jerry. The controls are pretty simple, you press triangle to punch, square to kick, X to jump, circle to pickup and drop items, R1 to block, and R2 and L2 at the same time to taunt and use your berserk.

I am 12 and love this game, but don't think that many teenagers over 14 would like this game that much.

I just recived this yesterday. I ordered it for my 4 1/2 year old. I know the thing says it's made for teens but it's way too easy for teens. And I don't see any more violence in this game then the old cartoons, so I don't see anything wrong with letting him play it. He's only 4 1/2 but he knows cat's & other animals can not pick up hammers and things and throw them at each other. There's games that are a lot worse. Any ways it was an early birthday present for him, and he likes it. that's what counts!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bonk!, February 27, 2003

Well actully this is just not a game for little kids. This was the very first time Tom & Jerry were for teenagers. If you have a little brother or sister <about 5 to 13> Dont let Them see this. Im still wondering if Spick is really good like in Fist Of Furry. Mayby they would get to use stuff like machine guns like their in an action cartoon. Although i dont really play violent videio games im interested in this.

This game may seem easy - but it is not. There are a lot of challenges which is what makes this game fun. I would recommend this game to anyone who loves Tom and Jerry!!

My eight-year-old loves this game. For about six months straight, this was his favorite game. However, it is a fighting game, so it contains quite a bit of violence. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have bought this for him, as it seems inappropriate for children under 13. No blood and guts, though.

First of all when your reading the info on this game, thinking to buy it "Ah this looks good", Wrongo!
It stinks, you picture running around the house beating other cats, but it's not at all like that, it's a 1 on 1 arena fighting, and when you play two-player team, only one at a time can play. The characters are really dumb too, they constantly make annoying sounds. My sister and I where very disapointed. We sent it back right away.

Rent first, decide later.
