back to the fusion,

This review is from: Tom Scott & L.A. Express (Audio CD)
When you first heard this band live, it was like hearing a more rocking version of the Crusaders (with Joe Sample and Larry Carlton on board, bringing the notable sonic similarity). This was a great band to hear live, it's a shame they didn't stay together long enough to record a live album at the Baked Potato in North Hollywood where this band used to woodshed. This great record will give you a taste of how "fusion" can be when it's done with true taste and jazz chops. No overbearing typewriter music or ridiculous overtures, just foot-tapping fun. And Scott's beautiful "Spindrift" is worthwhile all by itself, a beautiful melodic mood enhanced by the sound of Carlton's silky guitar and drummer John Guerin's wonderful rhythmic spirit.

When I first got this CD, I couldn't stop listening to it. Tom Scott is probably one of the best fusion players around today, and this CD really shows his talent. It features the original L. A. Express band as well, and there's no lack of good players in them. A must for all Tom Scott fans.

I have all of these great CDs listed below and I cannot stop listening to Tom Scott's music. Whether by a nice warm fire, at a party, driving with my hair in the wind or on a boat with friends, Tom's music is the perfect mood generator and depression chaser. I love his romantic, hot, sexy, funky and very contemporary pieces. The music on these CDs just make a person want to "groove", ohh, yeaaah baby, no matter wherever they are at the moment. I can't stop moving my pelvis when I hear Tom's new provocative saxophone sounds and Tom's motion picture movie scores are pure genius. WOW! I especially delighted in the mysterious and haunting "Hanky Panky" from Motion Picture Music, with its esoteric melody, which always transports me to a new mysterious realm of euphoria each time I hear it. It's music to make love by! You start listening and before you know it you're body is wiggling with so much rhythm and excitement you just cannot contain yourself. Yum! Tom you are absolutely BRILLIANT. I wish I had tuned in a few years ago. I missed out on a lot, but I'm glad I'm listening now. As a conductor (I saw Tom conduct the NJ Symphony live with a certain Tenor a few years back) Tom is mesmerizing, as a composer, arranger and instrumentalist, Tom is unparalleled, pure unadulterated genius and second to none. There is only ONE Tom Scott. What can I say, I can't stop raving about Tom's music because, I just can't stop listening to it. That speaks for itself. I recommend all of the Tom Scott CDs. I don't have everyone in Tom's collection yet, but my collection is growing and I will have all of them in the imminent future. Buy these CDs. I especially love jogging to his "Tom Scott and the LA Express" and "Tom Cat" CDs. Get this music. You're going to savor it because believe me it is quite delicious!New Found Freedom ~ Tom Scott Night Creatures ~ Tom Scott Tom Cat ~ Tom Scott and the L.A. Just a small correction to my review of the Blondie "Autoamerican" CD. I credited Lenny Pickett and the Tower of Power horn section playing saxaphones on "Rapture". Instead it is Tom Scott and the L.A. Express. Sorry about that. Thanks Max. |
