Tom Womack is a highly experienced writer with one book and more than 40 articles published to date. Professionally, he has conceptualized, written and edited Advertising and Public Relations copy for nearly 25 years. He writes extensively on military history topics with a primary focus on the former Netherlands East Indies (present day Indonesia) during the opening months of World War 2.
His first book -- "The Dutch Naval Air Force Against Japan: The Defense of the Netherlands East Indies, 1941-1942" -- was published in 2006 after 14 years of research and translation. The first English-language text of its kind on this neglected and often overlooked topic, it details the savage air war during the Japanese invasion of the Netherlands East Indies from December 1941 - March 1942.
His second manuscript -- "Bravely But Not Very Skillfully: The Allied Defense of the Malay Barrier, 1941-1942" -- will appear in 2016. It details the naval war of the NEI campaign. This project utilizes more than 300 American, Australian, British, Dutch and Japanese language sources to provide a comprehensive overview of the campaign from a Dutch point-of-view. It will also provide the first English-language account of the failed evacuation of Java following the disastrous Battle of the Java Sea.
