I try not to be overly negative in any product review, but this is gonna be an exception. The stock TomTom mount is, in my opinion, JUNK!

I tried hard to like this, but it was impossible!

It's overly fussy to attach and the suction cup just doesn't have enough holding power. My XXL unit fell four or five times from my windshield until I finally purchased another third party mount.

My advice is simple. Don't buy this! There are better mounts for less money. See my other reviews.

This is a FAR BETTER replacement mount: ARKON TTEP115 TomTom EasyPort Windshield / Dash Mount

I lost my original or left it in a rental car. This is a genuine replacement in TomTom packaging. This replacement includes another car charger / power supply.

Note to people who complain about the TomTom suction cup mount not sticking to the windshield: There is a lock and unlock position on the mount. I've never had the mount fall off the glass if it was turned to lock position.

since I have the original mount/cord permanently mounted on the dash of one car, i needed one extra mount and power cord for traveling and to use it in rental vehicles. I have TomTom XXL 550TM so XXL series will also fit.

This is the factory mount shipped with the TomTom. It is easy to use and the swivel base makes adjusting the Tom a snap. The Tom Tom is easily inserted and removed from the base. Finally, the Tom Tom and base unit can be folded into a compact arrangement which makes carrying both units a snap.

Unfortunately, this item is quite worthless; it sticks very poorly to the windshield and any other surfaces, and when it does it usually only stays a few minutes before falling off again. Some other users seem to have no trouble at all with it, though, so I can't speak for everyone. An in-vent GPS holder would be a much better option than a suction cup.

EDIT: Some additional things to note:
-Like other suction cups, its suction ability is affected by temperature and humidity. This may be my main problem, but it's still somewhat disappointing that it doesn't work when the weather is cold, hot, or humid (which is the majority of the year where I live)
-The suction cup is the only deficient part; the ball joint and the ring that attaches to the GPS unit work just fine, better than other 3rd-party mounts I've tried, in fact.
-If you're like me, you may already have one of these on hand (came with my TomTom XXL 550), and also happen to have a generic vent- or CD slot-based mount that mounts fine but uses a clamp that doesn't attach to your GPS properly (like this one, which is probably meant for a smaller form factor). In this case, the two unsatisfactory mounts can be easily combined into one functional mount by removing the clamp portion of the 3rd-party mount and attaching this unit instead.
-This can be done in about 10 minutes and under $1 using a drill, bolt (I used a 3/8x1" bolt, metric equivalent would be a ~9x25mm), nut, and washer. This is what I did, and oddly enough it works much better than most other mounts I've tried.

CHEAP KNOCK OFF, will not hold suction and build very cheaply, will never buy something this important in securing gps to windshield from anyone but authorized dealer, whole unit not worth five cents

Our original TomTom One mount broke, so we opted for this replacement. By all accounts this appears very simliar to the original, except that it doesn't stick to the windshield. (Yes, we removed the plastic film that covers the suction cup for shipping.)

No matter what we tried: moistening the suction cup, cleaning the suction cup, cleaning the windshield area, ensuring the fastening ring (the rotating lock/unlock piece) was snug - nothing worked. At best it would stay on for a few minutes, then drop off.

I think the problem lies with the suction cup itself. The original mount has a softer, more pliable, clear suction cup, while this one has a harder, dark material that just doesn't work. My wife also found the rotating lock/unlock to be very stiff.

This mount really only has to do one thing - stick to the windshield - and it does not. Avoid this product. I would return it, but the price doesn't justify the hassel involved.
