TomTom2 Car Mount,

A really good idea, but can be conplicated by the fact that you have to let the Rider 2 GPS "see" or detect the headphone piece before you get voice on the combined unit. So it takes extra steps to get set-up for automotive use.

I'm very happy with the 2nd Edition TomTom Rider car kit. It's easy to attach and detach from the windshield and the sound quality is there.

The mount works well. It securly holds and provides sound for the Rider 2 which does not have an intergrated speaker. It works as advirtised.

I am really satisfied with tha car maount, but ensure that the power supply is completly seated into the mount, if not the speaker on it will not not work. Took us a couple of days to figure this out, also be sure to twist the base to draw up the suction cup to lock it to the windshield. The Nav-Mat is a good thing to pick also, especially if you have a choice between the bike or two differant cages to travel in.

Rider 2 Car Mount alright,

Although the mount is the typical suction cup variety, the adhesive plate that comes with it doesn't remain "stuck" on a sun baked dash... otherwise an excellent product.

The sound on this unit is very good. And it sticks the windshield much better than I anticipated.

Breakable,

The Base broke when I tried to remove it from the car window to place on another car window. I had it one week. I think it can be designed better,

From 2 to 4 wheels, very nice when your going to us the car But. The power cord does need to be in for speaker to be hurd. A simple button in preferences to change to car mode. How ever there is NO microphone to use your phone hands free and it's agenst the law to wear your helmet in car when driving. So dust off your bluetooth head set, But this then cuts out speaker and uses headset it would be nice to have plug in mic for phone built into mount.

TomTom Rider 2 Car Kit - cigarette lighter adapter quit within 2 days,
By mikey "kk5sc" (Texas / Arkansas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: TomTom Car Mount Kit for the Rider 2 Motorcycle GPS (Electronics)
I purchased the car kit directly from TomTom. Within two days I noticed the GPS wasn't charging and chased the problem back to the cigarette lighter adapter. The fuse was blown. I replaced it with like fuse and it immediately blew. I plugged my household wall adapter into the car mount and it worked successfully. Therefore I believe I just have been a victim of 'infant mortality' in electronics. I have notified TomTom and am awaiting their response. More details to come.
BTW - I typically use the GPS on my motorcycle and have been enjoying its functionality there without issues. The motorcycle mount uses a direct battery connection versus using a cigarette lighter adapter for power.

I am leaving Tom Tom's world forever!
I had a Tom Tom Rider #1 1) no customer support... ever... 2) the Mac OS software never worked correctly - the sim mode never was operable, the PC version was only slightly better. 3) I bought an upgraded map membership - supposed lower price on upgrades. I was able to get one upgrade, then the remainder upgrades didn't work. 4) The entire software system that users have to navigate to determine what map version they have, how to upgrade it was kloogy. 5) The Rider's battery isn't replaceable and took hours of time, special tools and under the radar (meaning not supported by Tom Tom) YouTube training videos in order to replace. 6) The attachment bracket for the motorcycle has little pins which carry the electricity from the bike's battery to the Tom Tom eventually wear down. (like two years of periodic use on the road, not off-road). At that point, the Tom Tom Rider cannot charge from the bike. Again, there's a lot of info - not from Tom Tom- on how to try to fix this, but it didn't work for me. 7) Tom Tom was supposed to supply a special little wire/strap - which they didn't include in the original purchase - to alleviate the possibility that the unit would come out of the bike mount and fall on the highway. The website had a little section, years ago, that allowed us purchasers to get our 'free' wire/strap mailed to us. I tried, filled out the form, never got the strap. Made my own. 8) The Tom Tom website is really hard to get around. 9) Did I say no support? Forget support. 10) No live traffic support in the U.S. Perhaps that's changed in the last year, but hasn't been available. 11) The Tom Tom Rider won't let you zoom out and stay zoomed out - it always zooms back to some factory-set-level. 12) Oh, in the car, you have to use the Tom Tom Rider bluetooth headset to hear the damn thing. 13) Tom Tom Rider sucks. 14) Oh, I'm putting this on Yelp right now. 7/5/2011 |
