I truly hope they fix these issues in future software releases.
Jared M. Schwartz
It apparently collects data while you are swimming, but once you sync with the abysmal software (either the website or the app), you lose the details.
Enginerd
A mode that would allow for an open water swim, transition, bike, transition, then run would make this the ultimate triathlon watch.

This review is last updated Nov 2014 (firmware 1.8.19)

I have probably updated this review almost 10 times now... why? Thanks to improvements in the software since the watch was first launched. If you're one who sees glass half full, you might feel used by TomTom to be a beta tester. But truthfully, there were many new features added and existing ones refined over the last year or so!

TomTom has refined many existing features (e.g. Cycle) and introduced new ones (e.g. Interval, Stopwatch). I am rewriting this review as many of the issues has been addressed.

==================
Background:
I'm training for Triathlon and have used the Garmin 910XT (borrowed), and Garmin Swim (owned). Few minutes after I placed my order for 910xt, I learned about this TomTom watch. I canceled the order and eagerly waited for the Tomtom. Garmin 910xt is currently the king of Tri watch, but at twice the price - 399! (It was offering at 299 in May'13. Watch only). While it's unfair to expect this watch to be as capable, it has LOTS OF POTENTIAL though if the TomTom programmers can fix some stuff.

EXCELLENT:
======
Watch itself - THE HARDWARE IS THE BEST THING. It is Slim and light. This is critical for a sports watch. 910xt is smaller than 310xt but its still bulky and heavy for my taste. You feel it when you're swimming and running, not just the weight but the water and wind resistance. TomTomMS feels very comfortable and effortless when I swing my arms in water or running. I've used it on wetsuit and on bare wrist, and both are fine. Unlike the Garmin 910xt's quick release, which many has complained it may drop into the sea, the TomTom watch is encased in the strap in a smart way that won't dislodge.

Hello K. Chua, thank you for the very detailed review and comments. I've shared it internally with the product team and I know they are already working on many of the points in your improvement list. We'll update customers with new software versions as soon as we're ready. It's very useful to get specific feedback like yours, so that our product team can act quickly.

Regarding your comment on the support site - it's possible you checked just before the page went live. The Runner and Multi-Sport actually share a support section - it can be found here: http://bit.ly/19d2Wja. Looking forward to your updates after using the watch more.

7/25 Update: Hi again K. Chua, thank you for the further feedback. I've shared your comments internally. The team is already working on improving accuracy with Swim and Cycle metrics. Those sections you mention on MySports will be activated, but I don't have specific timing yet. Will keep you posted. For the time being, we recommend uploading your Cycle logs to MapMyRide. Lastly, wanted to share we will be adding feet input for pool length in an upcoming update as well.

08/28 Update: Version 1.3.1 of the watch software is now available for download. Major new features include lap pace, input of pool length in both feet and meters, support for the 4iiii Bluetooth HRM and notifications in case you are running in demo mode.

For the full list of updates please visit: http://bit.ly/19N6Ddb

We will keep releasing more updates and functionality moving forward.

UPDATE: 11/18/2013

I have been doing triathlons for several years now and every year I get a little more serious, so I was super excited when I got this watch to say the least. I actually was going to purchase the Garmin 910XT but I saw a YouTube video about this watch and I quickly changed my mind as I read reviews on the watch. The reviews I read were relatively positive and their only complaint seemed to be that the product was still in beta. I was surprised to see that the watch had just released so I purchased the entire performance bundle here on Amazon. When it arrived the packaging was beautiful and I mean BEAUTIFUL! I eagerly pulled out the watch and set everything up and read the directions and placed it in the charger. I was actually surprised at how simple it was. Minus the time it took for the watch to charge I was ready to go in less than 2 minutes. That being said here is what I thought.

What I love:
As a watch: For a multi-sport watch it is very thin and light. I have worn this to work for the past week and a half and nobody has said anything about it looking bulky. I also don't even notice it's there most of the time.

Setup: The watch setup as I mentioned before worked great, it was easy to install the software onto my system running Windows 8. The heart rate monitor synced up quickly as well as the GPS link, which in my opinion was faster than other watches.

Accuracy: Unfortunately I can only vouch for the running aspect of the accuracy, and I will explain why later, but as far as running goes I love having my pace right there on the watch as I usually run with my smartphone and it is really annoying to try and twist the smartphone around to see my current pace.

Hello Jeremy, I read your review and wanted to thank you for the feedback. I also wanted to comment on some of your points and hopefully give you advice on how to make the most out of the watch.

1. Bike mode can actually use only GPS to track your ride - the Cadence/Speed sensor is an optional accessory in the Performance Bundle. If you've used the sensor before and told the watch to search for one it will do that whenever you start a Bike workout. If you only want to use GPS, it's best to turn Off Cadence Sensor from the sensor options on the watch and start the Bike workout after that. When you're back on the bike with the sensor you can always turn the option back On so you can get the best accuracy possible. You can reach this option by going Down from the clock screen -> Sensors -> Bike.

2. Swim: we've seen some people comment the watch has been very accurate with swimming and also some people that said it's a few laps off. Here's one tip that helped users get more accurate measurements: when you hit the end of the pool lane, a single forceful push off (be it flip turn or just a simple open turn) is most important. It makes it clear to the watch that you've changed directions and a new lap has started.

3. MySports: I was sorry to read you're disappointed with it at the moment. We definitely plan to show much more advanced statistics in the future. A glimpse of what's coming can be seen in DC Rainmaker's review here: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/07/tomtom-runner-multisport.html While we're working on this, we've made the training logs generated by the watch exportable in multiple different ways - either automatically (RunKeeper, MapMyFitness + more to follow soon) or manually (via different file format exports), so users can use almost any other platform available. You can export logs via the Upload & Export section in MySports.

Hope this helps!

Even though I'm giving this 4-stars, I'm on the fence. I do like that it is smaller than any of the available Garmin choices because I have small wrists. As the other review has said it needs a yards option for swim laps since nearly all US pools are either 25 yards or 50 meters.

Battery life seems better than my Garmin bike computer and GPS connect seems to be just as fast.

Main Gripe:
The swim, bike, run display options are a little frustrating because their are three display field (top left, top right and main large display) So there are 5-7 display options for each event but only three spaces to display them.

Maybe I'm missing it but there doesn't seem to be a way to select what shows up on the main large display without playing around with the left and right display and hoping the main display defaults to what you want. This is frustrating since the top left and right are really too small to easily read when you are in motion.

If it just records my runs and bike rides accurately for a couple years I think it is worth the $, but it needs some tweaks.

Four month update: Like most gadgets it is great when it works, frustrating when it doesn't. It seems to be variable in finding satellites. I start in the same open field on most runs and sometime it take 30 seconds and sometimes 3 minutes. Once it is locked in it does quite well even when I run through some fairly narrow canyon trails.

Hi Dennis, I'm glad to see that you've taken a liking to the watch. Wanted to give you a hand with the main watch display - simply press Up or Down mid training and you can scroll through the different modes.
Hope this helps.

I have been using this watch for about a month. So far I have used it on 7 swims (pool and open), 5 cycling and 6 runs including one triathlon.

Hardware:

As has been noted, the hardware is slick! I know Garmins are awesome, but you can see the gigantic goiter-looking bulge on the wearer's arm from 100ft. I wear mine as a day-to-day watch and it fits and looks great.

The main body of the watch can be removed very easily and attached to the bike mount (included) in seconds. The display is crisp and large. I have no problem reading from my wrist or bike. I really like how the wristband is one single unit. I have broken a couple of bands on other watches right at the hinge where the band connects to the watch. Because the band on this watch is a single piece, there are no hinges, the computer just snaps up into the center of the watch band.

The big button separate from the watch is genius! On other watches you end up having to cover the display while you hit buttons. Then you have to move your hand to see if you hit the button right, then move on to the next step. No so with this watch. Because the button is separate from the display, it is simple to navigate.

Use:

Running - no complaints. Extremely accurate, great display. No problems whatsoever.

Cycling - no complaints. I love the bike mount and how easy it is to pull the watch out of the band and attach it to the bike mount. I do wish it had auto-pause, but I mainly cycle on open country roads so it doesn't bother me much.

One thing to be aware of when removing watch from the bike mount is the watch is a bit slippery, especially if you are already sweating.
