Hi, I thought the screen was large enough for me and not too clunky to be portable. I field tested it and it worked perfectly in Germany, Belgium and Holland, so imagine it would work in France as well. The unit comes with a car charger but NOT a wall charger. Might want to get one of those. I kept it in a side pocket of my backpack and it was fine but you can always get a travel like pouch for added protection. You do have to tell the unit in which country you are in-it does not adjust automatically. It has a side port for an sd memory card and while it is a little tricky to spot it is there and I slipped inside an additional card in case I want to add any extras in the future. It worked for me and got me around. And now I use it in the States. Best of both worlds!

The 1505M only comes with a car plug-in adapter, but you could also plug it in to a USB power adapter of the type you use for a cellphone, or plug it into a USB port on your desktop, laptop or a USB hub. However most cellphone chargers and hubs will take a long time to recharge the unit because they don't deliver enough current. You might need to find a wall plug charger that delivers around 1.5 to 2A (at 5V) to get a quicker charge. A suitable microusb charger will cost less than $10 on Amazon.

In the one I purchased the maps for Europe are pre-loaded. Once you connect the unit to a computer they, along with the US maps are continuosly updated. Great unit.

I used it traveling from Germany to France just last december. Coming back to Germany i realized some major roads where outdated, it was as easy as hooking up the tomtom to my mac, create a username on the lifetime update for my unit and there, updated maps for free!!! Beware that they are quite heavy updates, so depending on your connection speed it may take a while. Feb 24, 2014 by joshzaid

Not that I'm aware of. It runs off of GPS. I would suggest calling TomTom customer service for technical info. They are very helpful

The 1505M doesn't come with maps for the Bahamas or Caribbean islands. It does include coverage of Puerto Rico, but that's all. You can buy an additional 'Caribbean' package but in fact right now that only covers the French Antilles - Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin. Perhaps not what you'd expect from a "World Traveller" edition, but that's branding for you. I should add that I'm really quite happy with the way this device works in the US and Europe.

No it does not give you the telephone number. But this gps is in my opinion one of the best. I use it in US Canada and in France and I have no complaints whatsovever.
